"Forewarning; the monsters here are not friendly. At all."

TEN MINUTES INTO THE WALK and Mikey couldn't go anymore.
He was gasping and struggling to move his feet without whining once or twice about the blisters on his heels. Nadia tried blocking out the sound of his terrible and overdramatic cries, but it got to the point where she needed to say something.
"Mikey," she groaned as she spun around to face the orange turtle, "please stop whining."
"But my feet hurt," he whined. "And I got bit by mosquitoes."
Nadia sighed and pinched the bridge of her nose. Next to her, Florence smiled and reached over, cupping Nadia's shoulder. The mahogany haired girl looked up, her brown eyes flashing in desperation as she looked to the yellow-eyed girl.
"He'll get over it once he eats," she chuckled softly. Nadia widened her eyes and reached down into her pack where she fished through it and grasped a small apple, one of many that she had plucked off of a branch as they walked.
She turned around and without a sound, tossed it to Mikey who, as if he had a sixth sense for any kind of food, caught it with one hand without looking. His head slowly turned to the apple and as soon as the baby blue orbs rested on the green and red apple, a grin appeared on his face.
"Fuel!" He cried and looked up with a happy smile. "Right on dudette!"
Nadia ignored the slang and just smiled, nodding her head once before she turned and continued walking alongside Florence. It was Florence and Nadia who were at the top of the group while Raphael and Leonardo walked side by side in silence. Donatello was lingering around, his red eyes dancing from the trees to the flowers and back to the different species that he had never seen before.
There were a few things that were new to him; like the red flowers that opened up and bore a set of sharp teeth, or the trees that moved their branches as if they were tentacles. A few times, he saw animals running through the forest; some looked like deer but bore blood red coats with multiple eyes like spiders. Others looked like birds with jagged teeth and bloodthirsty eyes.
Either way, it all fascinated him.
Florence looked over her shoulder, a smile appearing on her face when she saw Donnie lecturing Mikey over feeding the native animals. She turned her head and looked at Nadia for a split second only to realize that her eyes were on someone else.
Florence smiled and leaned forward, her voice a hushed whisper as she said softly, "You suck at not staring."
Nadia spun around, her eyes wide and her cheeks crimson as she sputtered, "No idea what you're talking about girly."
"C'mon Dia," smirked Florence as she bumped shoulders with Nadia. "You and I both know that you like him and he likes you."
Nadia's heart thumped faster, but she swallowed it down and looked over with interest in her hazel eyes. "Really?"
Florence nodded and quickly glanced at Raph. She smiled when she noticed that he was looking at Nadia through the corner of his eye.
"Yeah," she hummed after looking back to the jungle floor. "He never really opens up to anyone quickly. I think it's safe to say that you got on his good side as soon as you and Leo ended up not getting along."
Nadia perched a brow. "Brother trouble in paradise?"
Florence could only scoff at the understatement. "More drama than teenage girls."
Nadia chuckled and looked over her shoulder to Leo who appeared puzzled. She felt slightly piteous over the blue turtle's silence. She knew that the sickness of his master affected him badly and as much as she wanted to tell him that it would all be okay, she knew that she would simply be lying.
"Hey Blue," she called, gaining his attention. As soon as his blue gaze met hers, she tossed him an apple which he caught effortlessly. A grateful look flashed in his eyes as he gazed from Nadia to the apple but the only thanks Nadia got, was a small head nod as he bit into it.
Florence smiled and looked up to the forest. Her heart stopped when she saw something standing in front of their pathway.
"N-Nadia?"
Nadia's head snapped up, her eyes growing cold when she saw three black figures standing in front of her and the others. Each of them had black clothing with leather gloves that bore spikes on the knuckles. Their clothes, clearly designed to hide any skin, was dusty and dirty but hardly paid attention to by their owners.
The eyes of each figure were covered by snowboarding goggles that were painted black.
Nadia's teeth bared in anger as she reached down to her pack where her pistol and knife rested and waited for use. She slipped on her brass knuckles as she said through gritted teeth, "I need you guys to turn and run right until you reach a river. When you get there, cross it using the rock bridge and wait for me."
"What's going on?" Questioned Donnie as he walked up to Florence. Florence gulped and shakily reached for his hand as her fear increased little by little.
Nadia looked over her shoulder to the turtles, her eyes dancing with danger as she reached her brass knuckled fist up and rubbed at the corner of her mouth. A sick, malicious smirk appeared on her face as she spoke with clear venom laced in every word.
"Raiders."
