When Rules Are Destroyed

Survivor

There were red and blue lights everywhere, sirens of the ambulances filled the chaotic air as cops and EMT's were running towards the smoking truck. A police men pulled me away as the firemen were using the Jaws of Life to open the door to grab the poor girl out. Watching from afar as they got her onto a stretcher and into an ambulance, she was covered in blood and was in a torn white dress.

"Would you like a ride to the hospital?" the policemen who had pulled me away from the window had asked. I was to in shock to answer so I just nodded my head yes.

RECAP Brody's POV

I was about to the couch when I heard the door knock again. The only thought that went through my head was, 'Are you kidding me Benny!?' As I walked to the door once more I had this gut wrenching feeling that something had happened.

Opening the door I found Daryl the lead investigator of the case standing outside the door. "What is it? What happened? Did you guys find her?" I fired off questions as the look of sorrow was plastered onto his face.

"She's in the ER; she was in a car accident. Let me drive you guys, it will be much quicker." He spoke as I ran and got the kids.

"Daddy where are we going?" Eli had asked as she was picked up and I was telling my mom to grab Jayden and that Nevey was at the hospital.

The time flew by as we got to the hospital and were in the waiting room. Hours ticked by and no one came, no doctors came to tell us of anything. Nothing was happening.

Dr James Reid POV

I was working over the missing girl that everyone had been talking about, she was in horrible condition. Several broken ribs, broken nose, needing a few stiches on the back of her head and on her face, bruising around the base of her throat, some patches of her long brown hair were gone as red patches formed from the brutality of hair being ripped out, bruising on her pelvis bone were old and some freshly new, just looking at the state she was in made me sick. What kind of sick bastard could do this to another human being? I walked into the waiting room finding that it was packed with people.

"Uhm Brody McClain..?" I read from the plastic board that had all of her details on it. A young man stood up first setting down a small baby girl that looked like Nevaeh Holmes and walked towards me and then followed me out into the hall way.

"My name is Dr James Reid; I was the one who worked on your fiancé." I talked in a calming voice.

"How is she doctor? And the pregnancy? How is the baby? Is my baby alright?" he had fired off questions about my patient being pregnant and if it was alright.

Holding my hands up and he stopped talking, "She is in stable conditions, she has a few bruises that will go away, broken bones that will heal and my nurse will be doing an ultrasound to see about the baby. But for now she's stable." A big breath blew out of the man's mouth.

"Okay thank you Dr Reid." He said while backing out and heading into the waiting room.

After the door shut I ran into the room calling the pediatrics to do an emergency ultrasound on the girl. As Dr Fia put the cool jell onto her black and blue stomach and spread it around with the transducer looking for a faint heartbeat.

"Is the baby alright Ms. Fia?" I asked hearing nothing, pleading for the baby to be alright.

"Give me a minute doctor there is a lot of bruising here. I have to find it hang on..."

Brody's POV

I was sitting down for about thirty minutes after Dr Reid had come in and told me the news, after I left I told everyone that was here that she would be fine and they are checking for a baby right now. My mom was the first to ask about the baby before I had even started speaking about it. After a while my mom left with the kids to get something to eat. My head snapped up as the door creaked open to reveal Dr Reid again, his voice was quiet as if he was whispering in my ear but he was just talking in his regular voice.

"Brody, you have a survivor in there, both of them are survivors. Your baby is just fine, it took us a while to find a heartbeat but it was there. When we found it, it was strong. Congratulations you're going to be a daddy." After he spoke he just left.

I stood up and fell to my knees crying into my hands, my babies were going to be okay.
