Rick has been shot before? I mentally slapped myself,Of course he has,he was a sheriff,obviously by his hat and the clothing he wears.Rick getting shot isn't that surprising,"Oh,you're dad must have gotten shot a lot cause of his job a sheriff huh?"

He shook his head,"Nope."

"No?" I thought about when I had first met Rick,could it be that the gunshot he had then that Lori had randomly told me about was the first time? I looked at Carl who had already been staring at me wondering what was going through my head."Carl."

"Ya?"

"So Rick,"he nodded slowly a bit confused,"has he-,"I sighed,why the hell am I acting as if Carl won't understand."Has Rick only ever been shot once as a Sheriff."

He nodded and that smile that was bright cause of our back and forth banter turned into a sad one smile with downcast-ed eyes,"Ya, one day while working he got shot by a bad guy,I was at school so I had no idea until my mom told me."

Obviously Rick didn't die but if he didn't die then why the heck was Rick on his own when he showed up at the city,I thought back to the groups reaction when Lori and Carl saw him.It was almost as if they had thought he was dead? "Was Rick on his own when he was shot?"

Again he shook his head no,"He was with others that worked as sheriffs,"that makes sense,I nodded at him to continue but was surprised by his next words,"If it wasn't for Shane my dad might have died."

Shane?

No,no fucking way,I leaned closer to him with a raised eyebrow,"do you know what exactly Shane did?"

He shrugged,"My mom wouldn't tell me,she said I'm too little,"he stuck his tongue out in annoyance that his mom wouldn't tell him something important like that,"But Shane was the one who told us that he was...."

He was what? I stared at him hoping he would finish his sentence, normally I'd ask but this was obviously a touchy subject for him,and considering that he was still a young kid? Ya,I rather wait for that answer that push him. We both stayed silent for a little bit until he looked up at my face that probably showed curiosity.

"Shane told us he was dead."

"Wait,why would you guys think he was -" I cleared my throat not wanting to to say dead before continuing,"it's not like you guys couldn't see him...right?" Well,considering Rick still had the bandage of his wound around him that means he must have gotten it only a bit before everything went to hell.I thought a bit more before asking a very crucial question,"Rick was sent to the hospital right?" He nodded so I continued to the more important question,"Is the hospital the place Shane went to before he said that Rick was- ,"I grunted.

He nodded,unfortunately confirming my suspicions ,I was going to ask something else but I noticed his mouth about to move,"When my dad got shot and went to the doctor they told us he was stuck in a coma.They didn't know if he'd get up." I nodded at him to show that I understood and he continued,"My mom suddenly panicked,shouting to pack up and that we had to leave with Shane and get to the city.I think that is when Shane had first told my mom that dad was gone.They told me later cause I wanted to know."

Wait a second,so, Rick gets shot during work and it inadvertently places him into a coma.He is stuck there for a while when suddenly walkers begin to roam and destroy order so Shane goes to look for him and he is dead? But -

My eyes widened as I remembered a section of the military suddenly going offline to my team,so that's what must have happened.That team that we lost contact with was the team that had gone into the hospital taking down anyone that could possibly be infected. That's when I realized the most important detail,Shane somehow snooped in,avoiding the murderous military team to try and find Rick.
