Chapter 10 Anguish

My face was buried in his chest as I felt his lips brush against my forehead, kissing it over and over again pulling me so close it almost hurt and all I could think to do was wrap my arms around his body. It was then I noticed his smell, the way he held me with such care and compassion, and I remembered what it was I felt when I had nearly kissed him myself. "Am I... in love with Levi?" if my voice hadn't been completely gone I would've said it out loud and I blushed at the realization. I had always liked him, but I always knew at the back of my mind I cared about him in a different way, it wasn't the same as how I loved my mom and dad, it wasn't the same as how I felt about Petra, Oluo, Eld, and Gunther, it was something much stronger than that. My heart began hammering against my chest as I finally realized what that feeling I had for years was absolute, unwavering, love. After a while he finally let me off of his chest but his arms did not fall from around my waist as he looked at me brushing my tangled [h/c] hair out of my face and gently whispered to me, "I'm so glad to see you made it back, I was so scared I might have lost you too. Are you alright?" I nodded my head in response but my eyes darted to my injured arm, which he seemed to notice and gently pulled my uniform off of my arm to reveal the gash which had several stitches in it. I winced as it still hurt and he let go and finally took a look around the room his eyes widening in shock at the damage. "What... happened in here [f/n]?" I looked at the floor for a while before walking over to grab some paper I had kept in a drawer, one of the few things I didn't break earlier and started to write a response to him. "Why aren't you answering me? Please tell me [f/n], what's wrong?" I finally finished writing what I wanted to say and handed him the paper. He hesitantly took it reading what I had written, "I'm sorry I let my anger get the best of me, I was upset about what happened to your squad, they were like family to me, my family has been taken away once again. I lost my voice from all of the screaming so that's why I can't respond to you right now. I'm happy to see that you're still alive, I don't know what I'd do if I lost you. Once I'm able to talk again, I have something important to tell you, can you wait until then? In the meantime I'm prepared to take any punishment you see fit for making the room such a mess." Levi took a moment to read what I had written, his lips parting a bit in shock and once he finished he took my hands in his only to notice then that my hands were dripping with blood. He frowned and pulled me over to my bed and stood in front of me. "Sit." He commanded and I did as I was told, he walked out of the room only to come back with a first aid kit and he started to clean and bandage the wounds. The way he held my hands was gentle, and then out of nowhere he brought his lips to my fingers gently placing kisses along them and a small gasp managed to escape my lips. I saw a light blush dust his face as I dared to hope, "Is it possible he likes me that way too?"

He stood up and said, "[f/n] come to my office tonight. That's an order understood?" I nodded my head and a smile smile crept up on his face. "Good, I'll see you tonight, in the meantime clean up your room, I'll give you your punishment later." He walked out of my room casting me one last glance before gently closing the door behind him. I sat there for a moment wondering just what he had to say, let alone what kind of punishment he had in mind but I put those thoughts to the side as I tidied up my room so that I could meet up with Levi as soon as possible since I knew he didn't like waiting. Several hours later I found myself in front of his door and I knocked lightly to let him know I was there, I was rewarded with a swift reply, " State your name and business." After letting my voice rest a few hours I could talk again although my voice was hoarse and said "It's cadet [f/n] [l/n] sir and I..." I was cut off by him opening the door for me and I gave him a salute but he waved it off, gesturing me inside and he pointed to the chair in front of his desk and I sat down. He sat down across from me and took a deep breath before saying "I called you in here to talk, there's some things that have been on my mind for a while and today was sort of a wake up call for me. I heard about what you did out on the field, and at first when I saw the flares I had assumed the worst, I thought I had lost you to be completely honest. When we came back, as you know I was devastated at having lost my squad and you all in one mission. In my years in the survey corps. I have learned to make choices without regrets, but there was one thing I regretted as I came back, I never told you just how much you mean to me [f/n]." Some tears started appearing at the corners of his eyes and he brushed them away. "As I was being treated Erwin came up to me letting me know what the squad leader who found you had told him, I was so happy to know you were alive and I was proud of you for defeating so many titans, I actually didn't believe him at first when he told me how many you killed and thought he was exaggerating. But more than that I was relieved, I thought I had lost everyone but... I still have you." He reached into the drawer and pulled out the drawing I had made for him, much to my shock as I thought he had probably thrown it out years ago in one of his cleaning sprees. "You remember this right? The drawing you made for me on your birthday? Well I didn't show it at the time but it really meant a lot to me and now it provides me with some sort of comfort." he placed the drawing down on his desk and came over to me, pulling up a chair next to me and gently held my hands in his.

"If I didn't have you here with me now, I don't know what I would do. But after what's happened I need to let you know that you mean the world to me, even if I don't act like it and please know that I love you so much. You brighten up my darkest days and give me a shoulder to lean on, which to be honest I didn't have before I met you. I understand that this is a little odd and I'm scared to care about someone so much, but I feel a little more confident that you won't leave me, at least not yet. I want to make sure that you're safe so I'm bringing you into my squad." I looked at him with disbelief before responding "Are you sure I'm talented enough to be on your squad sir?" he put a finger to my lips as if to silence my worries and said, "You are more than talented enough to be on my team [f/n] but more than that I want to always be there for you, and I can't do that if you aren't always by my side. But this isn't the only thing I wanted to talk to you about, when I said I love you... I really meant it. I want to spend the rest of my life with you but I wasn't sure if you felt the same about me. I understand if you want to keep things between us the way they were but I..." This time I decided to cut him off as I quickly grabbed his cravat but instead of taking it off of him, I brought our lips together and I could taste some of the black tea he had been drinking earlier. His eyes widened in shock and his normally stoic face was painted with a deep crimson blush. I held his lips against mine for only a short time before pulling back with an equally red face. "I love you too Levi." I could barely tell him with my voice being as hoarse as it was but it was loud enough for him to hear me. He stood up and pulled me into a hug with his arms wrapped tightly around my waist before leaning into my ear and with a low growl whispered "Now about your punishment... I think I have the perfect idea about just how I'm going to punish you."
