Chapter 55: Choose

Start from the beginning

Ricky sighed "That's the problem right there. You're too worried about Josie" he spoke. "That's not what I'm saying its just I don't want y'all to turn out like your father"

Ricky could laugh he doesn't like the fact of lashing out at his mother. "Ma, its- look I can't argue with you mom. I just can't do it" he said.

"Ricky Amari Santana, I'm a grown woman I can handle it," she said

"Its too late for all this talk ma, it's too late for all this shit. I am Grant! I am, I'm that nigga. I'm fucking 31 years old and I'm still trying to clean up his mess from the shit that he got me involved in at 14. Dreux and I" he raised his voice

"I know, and

"You don't know shit, damn ma! Sometimes I just wanted you to say something. You didn't do shit, you just stood there watching him beat us and mistreat us. Type of mother lets their children become drug dealers. You just were a weak bitch" he yelled. Monica slapped Ricky hard across the face. Ricky didn't mean to call her that and he regretted it. "I'm sorry," she said

"I didn't have shit when I met your father. Not a dime, nothing. You're right you are just like him. You fell for a good girl just like him. My mother never taught me how a man should treat me and my daddy wasn't around. I'm 56 and I'm just figuring it out my damn self. But don't sit here and call me out of my nature. I was up all hours of the night changing your diapers and taking care of your brother while your father was doing god knows what. You have no idea how it is to be a mother at that while being mentally abused and mistreated by a man. And then he buys me things to make me feel better. I couldn't leave, I had nothing without your father. I didn't want you all to grow up like I did so yes we all endured some messed up things but I tried

"IT WASNT ENOUGH, YOU SHOULDVE TRIED HARDER" he yelled. Tears were running down her face. "Shit," he said, he was finally getting a lot of his feelings out and it was scary for him.

"It wasn't enough ma, it just wasn't. I'm not saying you were a bad mother because you weren't but damn I wanted a relief sometimes. It's like Grant would be on my ass about some petty shit and sometimes I just wanted you to put your foot down. I wanted you to save us from our misery. I wanted us to be more important than you thinking you had to stay with him but you just didn't, and this is just the outcome" he sighed calming down

"I am so sorry Ricky. I didn't have the strength in me baby but if I could go back and do it all over I would" she walked up to him. Ricky didn't want to get more emotional than he already was. He looked away "Your father and I didn't guide any of you the right way and I apologize" she held his face. "That's why I always stress that girl on you. She's good for you! But even if you don't end up with her Ricky. I know there's someone out there for you. I want you to be a great father one day and I want you to remarry and whoever that lady is I want her to be a better mother than I ever was. You? Out of all of my children, I want you to be the happiness because you deserve it"

Tears were falling down his cheek and his mother wouldn't let him fight it. "I am so sorry you had to grow up way too fast and experienced things you shouldn't have but I don't want you to be bitter. I know its hard to let your guard down but can you try? I know it isn't easy being in the predicament that you're in but if you had someone there for you in the process it could help. But you have to unthaw that heart of yours just a little bit. Can you do that? she begged wiping his face. He nodded his head "Yeah" he said hugging her. "I'm sorry baby, I love you... I don't want to lose you to this mess, its all my fault" she cried.

Later on that Night

Ricky felt way better that he expressed himself to his mother. He sat in the car debating if he should hash it out with Josie. He felt more alert now that they got revenge for Ronnie. At the funeral, Ricky couldn't even focus on talking to Josie. The only thing that was on his mind was Ronnie. His mother was right; everybody was right. He's an asshole that pushed away the one woman he connected with and that was down for him. He sighed calling her number but it immediately went straight to voicemail. He called again but it went right to voicemail. He then called Erica seeing if she would answer. "H-hello" she said with an attitude as usual

"Wassup Erica this is Ricky," he said. "Yes," she answered. "Look, I'm trying to talk to Josie does she have the same number? He asked her.

"Yes, she does" she answered. "Alright-

"What you need another favor? And then after she does that continue to treat her like shit while your reward your other little tricks, that don't have half the potential she has or even half the woman she is ? She challenged. Ricky sucked his teeth "Bye Erica" he said hanging up on her. "Can't stand that bitch" he mumbled. It was obvious he was blocked which had him annoyed. He just wanted to squash the shit; he didn't need her for anything else revolving the foundation because he was over pretending to the world that he his family were saints because it wasn't true at all. He put her location on his phone that he saved. The Hilton Hotel was where he was headed. He walked to the receptionist

"Hey, how may I help you? She asked.

"Hi, I happened to misplace my card. My fiancé isn't in the hotel right now" he cleared his throat. "Name?

"Her name is Josie Wil-

"302 right? She asked. "Yes," he answered. "Here you go sir," she said handing him a key card. "Thanks, love" he winked at her making his way to the elevator. He walked down the hallway to her door. He knocked on her door waiting to see if she would answer.

Josie

Josie laughed jumping on the bed with Morgan they kept laughing at poor Jace trying to get up and keep his balance. She heard the door knock as she jumped down from the bed. "Poor baby" she picked him from the bed allowing him to wobble with her to the door. She opened it to see her post mates order from Pizza Bolis.

"Thank you so much," she said grabbing her pizza and large Pepsi. She handed the guy a tip before closing the door. "Pizza" Morgan yelled.

Ricky

A shirtless white guy approached the door leaving him puzzled. He looked over curious as to who was in the bed. "My bad man, the receptionist gave me the wrong key," he said. "No problem, man you happen to know a plug man me and my girl want to to get dumb high right now? He asked. Ricky didn't know if he was on the low investigators. "No man, sorry about it" he said walking off. "Hey, you looking for that girl that stayed in there? A black girl approached. "Yes" he answered

"She left early this morning, to move to New York," she said. Ricky looked baffled and confused. He felt like his time was wasted and she wasn't even there. "Appreciate it, sweetheart," he said

"No problem" she smiled walking away. Ricky got back in his car slamming the door. He sat back unlocking his phone going on Instagram.

@JoselynAmel If no one else got me. I know for sure that you got me. Thank you for letting me be your mommy. ❤️

He saw the picture having an epiphany. All she was doing was going above and beyond for the sake of her son something he wished his mother would've done and here he was upset that she stepped out to be a bottle girl. He realized he was being selfish about the whole situation; even though he hated how she went about it. He should've known better!

@DreuxSantana NEPHEWW!

@theycallmeErica Bring my godson home; I want to kiss his chubby cheeks.

Ricky unlocked his phone placing it to the side.
