Collapsing into a chair next to the blonde, you put your head in your hands.

"Actually I fell on the floor this morning. So, I didn't even get up."

"Oh." Lucy doesn't seem to know what to say, her brown eyes glimmering with confusion. "Is that why you look like you're going to kill someone?"

"I am going to kill someone."

"Ooh, can I help?" A flash of pink hair appears in the corner of your eye as Natsu throws his arm around your shoulders and grins at you.

"Don't. Touch. Me," you snarl, eyes glowing and pushing Natsu several feet backward.

"(Y/N)-san is having a rough morning," Lucy explained as the fire mage climbs over several tables to sit by you again.

"Still, wasn't that reaction a little unjustified?"

The three of you look up to see Gray striding over to your table, as usual, not wearing a shirt.

You simply scoff and turn away... and then you see Happy flying in with a fish in his mouth and a blissful look on his face.

"Stupid cat gave me nightmares," you mutter to Lucy.

She looks at you strangely. "I know he's annoying but he's not that scary is he?"

"No," you say, exasperated. "I meant him bringing up my dead Exceed yesterday gave me nightmares again."

Lucy frowned. "Are you okay now? I'll help you strangle him."

You manage to laugh half-heartedly. "Nah, it's okay. I'm going to go look for a job now, you wanna come?"

The Celestial mage shakes her head and you stand and absentmindedly make your way to the mostly empty Request Board.

Surveying the few papers still clinging to the wood, your eyes scan over your limited options. Most of the jobs are ridiculously easy with little pay, since over the last seven years Fairy Tail's reputation has gone down.

There's no way I'm finding anything good here, you think. I'll go ask Master if he has any harder S-Class level jobs.

You glance over the job requests for the millionth time, feeling a bit like Nab standing there and never picking a flyer. Sadly, none of the jobs there are even worth your time and energy.

"Going on a job again, (Y/N)?"

The silver-haired waitress is standing at your shoulder, giggling at your unchanged personality.

"I wish," you sigh, looking over the drooping pieces of paper. "There aren't any requests here that are worth my time."

Mirajane nods sadly. "Over the last seven years, Fairy Tail's reputation has fallen more than I can imagine."

"Then I think we need to pay a little visit to Twilight Ogre."

Both of you turn to face Erza, who is sitting at the bar counter enjoying a piece of strawberry cake.

You roll your eyes at the armored mage. "I think I'll leave that to you and Mira."

The two S-Class wizards exchange a mischievous glance and laugh evilly.

"Sorry to interrupt your revenge planning," you break in, "but do you know if I can find harder jobs with higher pay than these?"

Erza and Mirajane look at each other again. And then the redhead speaks: "There are still S-Class jobs," she says slowly, "but technically you aren't S-Class."

You must have given them a cuter puppy dog look than you thought, because Mira giggles and pats your head.

"Don't worry, (Y/N). I'm sure Master will make an exception for you."

Moving away from the Request Board, she leads you to the second floor where the Master's office is located. She knocks on the door a few times before pushing it open.

"Master? (Y/N) is here," the silver-haired waitress says into the room.

You hear a gruff voice reply and Mira turns around to beckon to you.

You enter the room quietly and Makarov is seated behind a desk looking through papers. The tiny old man looks even smaller in the giant chair he's in, but his big grin makes up for it.

"(Y/N)! What can I do for you?"

You explain your dilemma to him and once you finish, he strokes his fluffy mustache thoughtfully.

"I see what you mean, (Y/N). Unfortunately, it's against the guild rules for a non S-Class mage to take an S-Class job by themselves."

"I understand, Master," you say quietly, heart sinking. I guess I'll just have to make do with the jobs that are there...

"However, I'm the Master and I say that you don't have to follow those rules!" Makarov beams at you, wrinkles appearing at the corners of his eyes.

He reaches behind him and hands you a flyer. "Here, it's an S-Class job. I think you can handle it."

Taking the paper from him, you glance at the job description half-expecting it to request something obnoxiously hard like killing a dragon or defeating a dark guild.

"Retrieve... a clock piece?" You look questioningly at the Master, who still has a cheerful grin plastered on his face. "Master, are you sure this is an S-Class job?"

The old man nods. "Of course it is! Now go have fun, child!"

You swallow the questions that are still burning at your lips: Who is the client? Why does it seem so deceptively easy? What is so special about this clock piece? Why is it worth... you check the request flyer again. Why is this clock piece worth 10 million Jewel?!

Reaching for the door handle, you're about to pull open the heavy oak door when the Master calls your name again. You turn to face him, gripping the cold metal handle.

"Try not to die!" He gives you a big smile before waving you off.

A/N: Hi y'all! Here's another chapter! This was written and uploaded entirely on my phone so I apologize if there are a ton of typos.

On another note though, I published a Gray x Reader called "Colors" (aren't I so funny) if you want to give that a read :)

Thanks for reading! <3

(Does anyone have a guess what that clock piece is?)
