“Jeremiah?” You called out cautiously spinning around in confusion when he was nowhere in sight
“Is there something on your mind?”His distant voice echoed overhead the robotic tone dropped momentarily as he seemed concerned.
He was watching you somewhere.
Your eyes flicked up to the ceiling, vaguely recalling the time your ginger haired lover showing you the control room, a wall full of monitors to “keep an eye on the place”; you thought nothing of it until now as you turned ignoring him to continue your venture finding a solid wall in your path. A dead end. You let yourself get so distraught that you’d lost yourself in the slated corridors.
“It’s rude ignore others “Y/n.” You could hear the irritation in his voice as he filled the halls with a frustrated sigh. The maze seemed different; you found yourself squinting as you retracted your steps. It felt sinister in a way, the lights that hovered along the tops of the walls flickered dimly or went out completely, forcing you to now stumble feeling your way down the hall.
“Why are you upset with me? I already told you, I locked the bunker for your protection-“Your hand met a cold metal surface blocking your path. Another dead end.
“MY protection?” You pressed yourself against the wall.
“I’m not the one who’s been cowering down here for 6 years, I’m not afraid Jeremiah, I’m not afraid of you or this maze.
“Do you like the new improvements?”Jeremiah’s voice cut through the darkness radiating over head as you pressed up against a wall of your confinement. “I added some additions shortly after you moved in; you learned to navigate the maze so quickly I had put in more preventive measures.”
You slowly sank to your knees, trembling on stone cold floor tears brimming in the corners of your eyes.“This was your plan all along?” You pushed back a sob trying to maintain your fracturing composure.
“I wasn’t the only one who changed the night Jerome died, I saw how you looked at me; a monster, an imposter. You hated me-
I don’t-
Don’t. Lie to me Y/n.” You shrunk down as his calm melted into a quiet rage the tears that threatened to spill streamed down your face in hot streaks. Quickly you wiped your face with a sweaty palm forcing your shaking form to stand. “You’ve been plotting to escape me since, just lying in wait for your chance… Well my dear- “
Light suddenly flooded your vision, you flinched as the maze was instantly bathed in a sickly yellow glow. The walls that imprisoned you sunk into the floor opening up your path once more. The barriers around you expanded opening up the hall leaving you ample space to walk.
“I am a man of a word, try and navigate the maze, escape my creation and you can leave.Your eyes strained against the sudden light flickering nervously as you took a few wary steps forward, your heart pounding in your chest as you straightened up and started forward slowly.
The lights continued to flicker as you made your way down the halls, flinching each time you were hurled into momentary darkness. Your body locked frozen in your tracks until you could see your path again. Your nails trailed along the walls gently scratching into the smooth surface. The maze was your favorite past time when Jeremiah locked himself in to work. You enjoyed the initial challenge of the seemingly never ending twists and turns and copycat halls. He was right, you knew this maze. You knew you were going the right way; you’d win his little game of cat and mouse.
Turning a corner, you’re tired form was met with a hall illuminated in mauve and magenta hues immediately you started to sprint your eyes glued to the sign-END it read in bright neon pointing to the way out, a soft grin spread across your worn features as you neared the exit not noticing the shadow that trailed close behind you.
The door to freedom in your sights, just a little more, a few more steps and you were free.
“There’s my smart Y/n, I knew you could do it.”You lurched forward as a chilled hand ensnared your arm holding you back in an iron grip. Your eyes flicked catching sight of the snow skinned hand as you twisted and pulled in his grasp.
You were whirled around to face your captor, his pale eyes looked you up and down with an almost hunger, his tongue swiped across his bottom lip as pulled your arm behind you up against your back. His head nestled on your shoulder, his warm breathe tickled your neck as his lips trailed up to your ear.
I said I’d let you try, didn’t I? His chest rumbled as a breathy laugh filled the hall. Your eyes squeezed shut as a tear slid down your stained cheek as Jeremiah rocked you gently in his arms.
“However; I never said I’d let you go.”
