Once I was dressed I walked back into the restroom to do my own hair. I looked to see Shawn finishing up Melody's braids.
"Where did you learn to do braids?" I asked as I brushed my hair.
Shawn smiled, "I used to do my mom's and Aaliyah's braids."
"That is so cute, and honestly kind of attractive." I told him.
He turned and looked at me, "Me doing braids is attractive?"
"When they're really good braids? Yeah very." I told him as I finished doing my hair.
"Okay Melody you're all done, go find nana." Shawn told her as he set her down.
She ran out of the restroom and out of our room. I walked out of the restroom to go put on my shoes but Shawn stopped me. He wrapped his arms around me.
"How are you doing?" Shawn asked me seriously.
I sighed, "Good. Tired, kind of want this annoying cast off."
"Just a couple more months." He told me looking at my arm.
I could tell that day still haunts him. It sucks cause it's Melody Birthday. That's all the day should symbolize but I know I ruined that. I cup his face with my good hand and make him look at me. He smiled trying to mask the pain and regret he still felt towards himself.
"Can you do something for me?" I asked him softly.
"Anything." He answered in the same tone.
I swiped my thumb across his cheek, "Let that day go. Stop blaming yourself. I don't want that day to be a painful reminder. It's Melody's birthday, a day of celebration. Please let go of what happened." I tell him hoping he feels what I'm saying.
I don't regret that day. I don't want to remember that day. I've accepted what almost could have happened and moved on. But knowing he still holds this guilt and hatred towards himself. That hurts me.
"I don't know if I can." Shawn told me truthfully as he leaned into my hand.
I nodded, "I know you can. We have babies on the way and a two year old. All are healthy and fine, we are healthy and fine. Focus on that."
"I'll try." He sighed.
"Great cause now we have guests downstairs waiting for us. They all want to find out the gender of our babies." I told him happily.
"We're really having two?" Shawn asked with a now genuine smile.
I got out of his grasp and went to go out on my flats, "Yup two. What do you think they are?" I asked him as I sat on the bed.
He leaned against the door and just looked at me, "Two boys."
"If so I hope they look like you." I told him which caused him to smile.
"What do you want them to be?" He asked me.
I stood up and shrugged, "Doesn't matter to me. Double the trouble no matter what."
