She smiled sweetly, but I could see right through it.
"Well?" I snapped. "Say what you want to say."
She shrugged. "Just observing. You're still angry. That's good. Means your spirit's strong."
I glared.
"None of that, Ellie," she warned. "Unless you don't want answers."
My fists clenched, but I kept my mouth shut.
"What happened to me?" I asked.
"You were angry. So angry, your wolf began to surface—partially. Enough to unlock something."
"Unlock what?"
"Something ancient," Miranda said. "Powerful. And rare."
My stomach tightened.
"There's more," Jacob added gently.
I turned to him.
He hesitated, then said, "Your eyes... they turned gold."
I blinked. "What?"
"Bright, glowing gold," he said. "Like sunlight burning from the inside out."
I shook my head. "That's not possible. My eyes are green."
"Not anymore," Miranda said. "Gold eyes appear when a powerful wolf's true nature is starting to emerge. It's not common. Most wolves never reach that stage."
"What does that mean?" I asked.
"Your scent is shifting too," she continued. "It's still tied to this pack, but something underneath is rising. Something... older. Royal."
I stared at her. "Are you saying I'm royalty now?"
"Possibly Lycan."
"You think my bloodline's special?" Ellie asked sharply.
"I do," Miranda said. "Fire powers are rare. Not something any wolf can access. It's ancient magic tied to those whose wolves were born to lead—perhaps even to a bloodline long thought extinct."
Jacob looked confused. "What do you mean 'extinct'? You think someone wiped her family out?"
"I think someone tried to," Miranda said cryptically. "If I'm right, Ellie, your fire isn't just a random occurrence. It's a heritage. Something in your ancestry awoke that night when you were fighting Iron Fist. It called out to your wolf."
Ellie shook her head. "I don't know about that."
Jacob caught her arm. "But what if she's right? What if this is connected to your past—your real past?"
Ellie pulled her arm away, her voice distant. "I don't want to talk about it. Not now."
Miranda gave a small, satisfied nod. "As you wish. But I'd be lying if I said I wasn't curious. All this time, Ellie, you've had a fire inside you. And that fire might just be the key to everything."
Ellie walked on ahead, her steps deliberate
I scoffed. "Now you're just making things up."
"Maybe she's not," Jacob said. "Lycans are different. They're stronger, faster. When they awaken, their wolves shine through their eyes. Gold for Lycan nobility. Red for wrath. Silver for the gifted. Your eyes weren't green, Ellie. They were gold."
My heart skipped.
"You're saying I'm not just a werewolf."
Miranda stepped forward. "I think you're something more. And I think someone didn't want you to know that. Your past has been wiped too clean."
