"Don't just pick your mates. Pick both the seniors and juniors. We're all one right now," Mr. Fred said with his usual gesturing.
We continued picking and Spencer was left to William's team by default. I felt bad and I was sure he did too but I was avoiding him so. . . I just couldn't . The ball was passed and we started the play.
I didn't have a problem with winning and Spencer wasn't bad himself but I made sure to stay away from him. I didn't want to bump into him or be forced to tackle or dribble with him. But unfortunately, the universe wasn't with me. As I ran with the ball, I somehow ended up being cornered by no other but the one person I wanted to avoid. As he tried to get the ball, his hands touched me. It was a normal thing with soccer but now it was like I'm hypersensitive to it all and I end up giving up, leaving the ball to him, so he won't come near me.
Spencer smirked in his victory but ends up raising a brow at me as he went off with the ball. My teammates raised their brows at me but the only response I had for them was a shrug. How else could I explain it?
Then some guy with spiky hair came out of nowhere and shoved Spencer more than necessary when the teacher wasn't looking, almost inflicting an injury on him. My eyes widened as anger rushes through me but Spencer got up, glaring and shoving him back. Before anybody could even blink, he and his friends had ganged up on Spencer.
Before my head could reason with anything, I was already storming to his side and pushing them back. "Get off him!"
"No way, Percy are you really standing up to this psycho?" The spike hair I didn't know asked.
"The only psycho I see here is the one clearly having a bad hair day." I retorted and he glared.
"You must be bipolar, Flynn. You're not the only one who gets to have his shot at Tracey over here." He said.
I gulped but I don't let his statement get to me. I stepped closer. "Stay away."
"What's going on there?" Mr. Fred asked running over but just then the bell goes off and students start leaving.
Spike pointed his fingers at himself, then me, then at Spencer. I turned around and bumped right into Spencer. He stepped back but I don't wait to see his face before I ran off.
"Dude, you're going the wrong way," Erik yelled as I run past him in the hallway.
"I'm missing practice. I'm sick." I yelled right back, not stopping for anything.
I ran right into my car, shutting the doors and leaving the windows up. My heart clenched up as a headache surfaced and the memory comes thundering in.
"Sophia's throwing a birthday bash," Henry announced and I almost choke on my juice box.
"Sophia? The one whose parents are super religious and uptight?" I asked and the table nodded in agreement. I laughed, "A bash or night vigil?"
The table laughed as Henry tried to protest, then they all grew silent as Spencer dropped his tray and tried to sit. Tried because, Trent immediately pulled the chair backwards and Spencer had to catch himself on time before he fell butt first to the floor.
"What's wrong with you?" Spencer asked him glaring.
I pushed my chair back with a loud screech, causing maybe the entire cafeteria to turn to us. "What are you doing here?"
"What?" He stupidly asked raising a brow at me.
I scoffed, "Unbelievable. You don't expect to sit here with us and pretend to be normal after that stunt you pulled last week, huh?"
"Percy, I don't understand you. What stunt?"
"You were going to run your sister over. What kind of a monster does that?" I asked, walking closer to him. "If it wasn't Ryder, were you going to run my brother over?"
His face paled. "Percy, I wasn't going to--" I didn't let him finish as my fist flew forward, slamming into his face. He fell backwards, looking at me with wide eyes. I went after him, grabbing his collars. "Stay away from my brother else."
"Percy-- Percy w-wait--" he called as I stormed off. The last thing I saw were his eyes filled with tears.
I humiliated him. I turned the entire school against him all because of my anger and one drunken mistake. I was a hypocrite, an excuse of a good person. Who was I to tell others not to hit him, when I started it all myself? How on earth do I make this right?
Just then my car door opened up and Spencer entered the passenger sit making himself comfortable.
"What the hell are you doing?" I asked, burying my face in my palms.
"We need to talk."
