Chapter 6: Reflection

Start from the beginning

Riding me? There's an innuendo I'm missing here. I'm sure of it.

Alaina smiled. "I'll ride with Leena."

As they left the village, they were met by short skirt from before. Ares, Midnight and a third horse calmly stood behind her.

"The horses are ready Sister Kianna," she said.

"Thank you Sister Gina."

"I have messages for Turrent and Sabin from the horses. Ares said to tell Sabin that he doesn't like being ignored. Midnight wants to know, ahem, if it's ok to stay with the beautiful ladies."

"Tell Midnight that he'll have to be satisfied with looking this time," Leena said, scoffing at the horse.

Sabin watched as Gina gently stroked his head and closed her eyes. Her eyes flashed open. "That's incredibly inappropriate, Midnight."

"What did he say?" Sabin asked her. "And how do you know what they are saying? I only get feelings."

"As do I," Gina said, handing him Ares' reins. "He said 'fine, the view of Lake is prettier'. A much less refined version of that anyway." She smiled at Sabin then. "Don't worry, interpreting these sensations is something you get better at with time."

"Thank you," Sabin said.

"Lake says: 'Let's get this 'expletive' show on the road'."

"I think we'll get along well, you and I," Leena said.

Sabin watched as Lake quick-stepped in place. The light brown palfrey was indeed antsy.

She's perfect for Leena.

Sabin took the brush from Ares' saddlebag and began to brush. Sorry Ares.

Contentment, came from Ares.

Sabin rubbed his back then. Thank you.

"So you can talk to animals." Kianna said. "I suspected as much from how you reacted to Sister Gina. Tell me what she's saying."

"He," Sabin replied.

"Whatever. Give it here." She motioned for Sabin to give her the brush.

"Fine." Sabin handed her the coarse bristled tool. "Just be warned, he's very picky."

As Kianna brushed Ares' coat, Sabin could feel a new emotion, one he hadn't got from him before.

Bliss.

Sabin glared at him.

Sorry Sabin.

"What did he say?" Kianna asked him.

"He says that you suck at this." Sabin stuck out his hand.

Kianna gave him the brush and rubbed Ares coat. "I'm sorry boy."

Bliss.

"Traitor," Sabin mumbled under his breath. He looked at his horse and back to Kianna. "Maybe he didn't say you suck at this."

"Maybe?"

"He likes you better, but it's only because you're a woman."

She simply smiled at him.

"Well, if you two get along so well, you would mind grooming him no?"

Bliss, came from Ares.

Quiet you. Sabin tried to emote back.

"Sure, I'll care for him." Kianna winked. Though towards himself or Ares, he couldn't tell.

Sabin boosted himself onto Ares' back. "Let's get going."

Kianna held out her hand and Sabin pulled her up. That was easier than it should have been. Was that from one of her Talents or have I gotten stronger? She wrapped her arms around his waist.

"Please take care of them, Sabin, Leena, and Turrent." Lila had tears in her eyes. "You must bring our daughters back to us, my daughters back to me."

"We'll do our best, H.E.R.," Sabin said. "Although they'll probably take care of us."

"Sister Kianna..." started Lila.

"I know H.E.R. I'll take care of Alaina." Kianna interrupted.

"Take care of yourself, Kianna," Lila chided. "I need you to come back too."

"I know...mother."

"Alaina, you're an exceptional child, but you're still a child. Do not grow up too fast." Lila said.

"I understand, H.E.R."

Lila waved them on. "Go now before I lose my nerve."

Leena nodded. "Thank you for your hospitality. Sabin?"

Sabin turned Ares towards the exit. "Let's find the last one."
