They just felt like saying "hi"
That evening Spencer just couldn't fall asleep, and now it was past 1AM and she finally decided on giving up trying to fall asleep and as much as she was debating doing this she ended up picking up her cell phone and scrolled through her contacts until she found who she was looking for and she hit dial, she was beginning to worry about waking him up but she knew he wouldn't mind because they have late night talks like this all the time but still she hoped he wasn't sleeping.
A few seconds later Toby picked up.
“Hey Spence, everything okay?” He asked with a hint of worry in his voice.
“Yeah I'm okay, I'm just having trouble sleeping, did I wake you Tobes?” Spencer asked worriedly.
“No you didn't, I can't sleep either, I'm glad you called.” Toby's warm voice spoke through the phone giving her immediate comfort.
“Yeah me too.” Spencer said, she was smiling to herself.
“So, is there any way I can help you right now?” Toby asked.
“Just by talking, you always know how to make me feel better.” Spencer said and what she didn't know was that Toby was smiling from ear to ear on the other end of the line.
“Yeah I can definitely do that.” Toby said and Spencer was smiling happily to herself.
“Good, I like listening to your voice.” Spencer said and then she immediately regretted saying it and she spoke before Toby had a chance to respond. “Oh my God that sounded really stupid didn't it.” She said embarrassed.
“No of course not, if it means anything I like listening to your voice too Spence.” Toby said and Spencer's heart instantly melted.
“Thanks Tobes.” She said smiling to herself, they continued talking to each other for a few more hours until Spencer finally fell asleep.

Trying to hide the chemistry
It was now Saturday evening, after they finished binge watching season 4 of Fuller House Toby had spent the night and then they spent the entire day together watching TV, playing Scrabble, and of course just talking, but now it was getting late and Toby had to be getting home, but he seemed to be trying to take his time and Spencer was definitely noticing.
“I thought you said you had to be home for dinner?” Spencer asked curiously as Toby stood by the door.
“Uh, I do I totally do.” Toby said before looking down at his keys which he was shuffling in his hands.
“Then why are you still standing there?” Spencer asked smirking at him.
“Uh because I love hanging out with you, my best friend, isn't that obvious?” Toby asked nervously as he raised his eyebrow at her.
“I love hanging out with you too Tobes, are you sure that's all it is?” Spencer asked curiously.
“Yup that's all it is.” Toby said before looking at his keys again.
“Is something bothering you?” Spencer asked with worry and concern in her voice, Toby shook his head.
“No Spence everything's just fine I promise, you're right I should be getting home, I'll call you later.” Toby said before opening the door.
