“Unless you want to join us, I’ll meet you in the room? We’ll have to track down that buck later.” I said, glancing back at him. He simply nodded me forward while silently agreeing. I galloped behind Dan as he wrung his hands nervously. Once we walked through the front door, the beta and I hastily made our way to his quarters.
“Dan?” Amber called just as he barged into the room while I trotted in behind him. Amber was standing in the center of the room, one hand over her swollen belly and her eyebrow raised at him. Dan grabbed a robe from the closet and threw it over my back before I shifted, quickly tying it around my bare body.
“Seriously, Dan, again?” Amber sighed as she stared between me and him. “With you it’s like every cramp I get I’m going into labor,” she said with a roll of her eyes. I crossed my own arms as I shot a look at Dan, getting irritated that he’s calling for my help every couple of hours about nothing.
“Why don’t we go sit down, Amber,” I said, wrapping a supportive arm around her shoulders and heading towards the door, shaking my head at Dan.
“What? You can’t blame a man for being worried,” he protected, giving Amber a loving look. She returned him a caring smile, but continued to follow me towards the Alpha Suite where we could hopefully spend a few minutes alone.
“I swear, I’m about to just force this child out so he’d stop worrying,” Amber joked as I carefully laid her back comfortably on one of the plush chairs. I giggled as I sat in the chair across from her, double checking that my robe was secure.
“It’s typical soon-to-be-father behavior to be worried about every little cramp and cry,” I laughed. Amber shrugged, her bangs falling in front of her eyes before she could brush them away.
“Yeah, but he’s taking you away from your Alpha duties just about every twenty minutes,” she said.
“Don’t worry about it. One of these days it’ll be real thing and I’ll be ready to assist any way I can. I can get back to Alpha duties any time after,” I assured her with a soft smile. She shrugged; clearly still feeling bad about it.
“I can see that everything’s all right up here,” Damon grinned from the doorway, startling both Amber and I.
“You want to maybe knock next time?” I raised an irritated eyebrow at him, noticing that he only had a blanket wrapped around his hips to conceal his bareness.
“Why should I? It is my room after all,” he returned as he went to the kitchen and pulled out a cold piece of pizza from the fridge before leaning against the counter coolly.
“Uh huh,” I crossed my arms and shifted in my seat so I could throw him a look. “You plan on getting dressed any time soon?”
“No,” he stated as though it was nothing. Rolling my eyes, I turned back to Amber and mouthed an apology to her. Her face was bright red as she tried to hold back the nervous laugh, a wry smile on her face.
“Well, I should get back to the room before Dan sweats his own river,” she chuckled shyly. I was quick to my feet to help her up, but she simply waved me off as she struggled to get herself up before she was making her way out of the room.
“Do you have to be so arrogant all the time?” I growled as I turned to glare at Damon, only to find him standing right behind me with a smirk painted on his face.
“Shut up,” he chortled. “You know you love the view,” he added as he ushered to his broad chest while flexing his beautifully sculpted muscles.
“What view?” I mocked, turning my back to him, but unable to bite back my own amused smirk.
“The view below the belt,” he vexed. My eyes widened as I heard the blanket drop to the floor, but instead of turning around I continued towards the door.
“Well, how ‘bout that buck? Better go find one before we forget,” I said nervously as I went for the door handle. However, before I could grab it, Damon wrapped his hand around my wrist, his other hand grabbing the robe’s tie.
“We have a couple minutes,” he whispered, but I quickly unwrapped myself from him and pecked a kiss on his cheek before shifting and watching Damon do the same seconds later.
“Buck first, fun later,” I sang before dashing out the door, feeling my mate right behind me. We may be mated and married, but I wasn’t going to make it easy for Damon. Not yet anyway.
