We said our goodbyes and they were about to enter the car for the trip back. I lived hours away, but I was still gonna miss them.
"Let me know how being a senior treats you," I told Zoe with a sarcastic chuckle. The corner of her lip raised only slightly.
"Yea, okay," she snorted. Hesitating, she quickly stepped forward and hugged me tightly. A mix of shock and surprise and a little bit of guilt ran through me.
I couldn't just stand there frozen, so I wrapped one arm around her too.
"Good luck, asshole," Zoe said with a full smile now.
"Oh fuck you," I ruffled her hair before she left. "Don't repaint the room."
"I'm gonna repaint the room." She smirked before running off to the car before I said anything else.

I knew it was past midnight by the time I rolled over to lay on my back again, mentally tracing shapes into the ceiling. My roommate, Brody, fell fast asleep hours ago. We were only on first name terms, so I didn't know if he's cool with weed yet. Temptation itched at me since there was a window in my room.
Grabbing my laptop and plugging my earphones in, I kept glancing over at him to make sure he stayed asleep.
Quickly, I turned my screen brightness down after cringing at the light. I kept a music tab open and opened up my emails since there was a notification from it.
I smiled at the name. After she left, communication with Y/N became limited. What with settling in for college out of state, I wouldn't think she had time to even glance at her phone. Even our group chat wasn't completely dead, but our conversations died down after a couple of messages.
I eagerly clicked the message.

Dear Connor Murphy,
So we're back to this email shit again. I don't really care though, and I hope you don't either. Anyway, I'm using this because the internet kinda sucks ass in some places and my phone can't send texts right now. This might be one of the last few emails I send before the semester ends because I'm gonna end up drowning in work. I already have some papers due in like a week and the one after that. Socializing isn't gonna be possible for me, not that I mind that much.
So how was moving in? I know it hasn't been too long but I'm just wondering how you're doing. Hopefully, your roommate isn't shitty and actually does their fucking laundry (not hinting at anyone at particular)Good luck out there Con :) don't get into too much trouble. I love you.
Sincerely,
Me.Through a simple, rushed email, her voice was loud and clear. By the time the message was over, my fingers were already dancing on the keys.

Dear Y/N L/N,
I'm actually not sure if he does his laundry since I just met him, but now that you brought it up I hope he does. So far, he seems okay.
Moving in wasn't too bad. The people welcoming us were obnoxious as fuck, though. Reminds me of school a little. Man, that was hell. But you kinda made it less hellish. I guess I'll try to stay out of trouble and stick to taking hits. That'll probably get me into more trouble, I dunno. I could get high right now, but my roommate might notice and god knows what would happen. Or maybe I'd get a new smoking buddy, you never know.I know you hate when I talk about stuff like that. Sorry.
I love you too, Y/N. Good luck to you too. Don't die, lol.Sincerely,
Me."Turn it off, please," Brody's groggy voice said.
"Wait a fucking second," I replied coldly before hitting send. My roommate shifted back on his side and pulled his ruffled comforter over him, groaning in mostly annoyance. Letting out a sigh myself, I shut my laptop and hooked it back onto its charger. I tossed onto my back, waiting for my eyes to close and waiting for what was to come next.
