With a sigh, I laid down on my bed. There was no point at looking at the bad stuff, so instead I slept and let my mind wander to where ever it wanted to lead me.

Footsteps resounded throughout the cement tunnel. Screams filled the walls making me cringe back in fear. I turned away from the sound and ran until I reached a gate leading out into a dark forest.

Even when I was out of the tunnel, I could still feel the screams at the back of my neck. I had nowhere to go and nowhere to hide. I was alone in this dark forest but I knew I had to keep running or I would end up joining those screams. It was either run or die. As much as I wanted to just drop down and rest I knew I had to keep going, something inside me kept yelling at me to run and not look back—So that’s exactly what I did.

Suddenly pain began coursing through my body, taking away the last of my energy. My legs then gave in and I was hurdling towards the ground. I could taste the earth in my mouth along with a strong taste of metal. Blood? No.This couldn’t be it. This couldn’t be how I died. NO! I won’t let myself die here!

Mustering whatever energy I could, I lifted myself off the ground and began running again. I wasn’t going to let myself die here. I ran until my vision began to blur, but even then I knew I had reached a town. The glow of street lights penetrated through my blurred vision and the ground below me was no longer a maze of rocks and branches, but rather a smooth surface; it was then that I knew I could finally rest.

The pain was so intense now and my head was spinning so fast I could barely run straight. I knew there was something wrong with my body when I had first tasted blood in my mouth, but I didn’t have time to check. My head was throbbing so hard I felt to the point of passing out and that was when my legs, for the second time, gave in. My world titled until my body met with a cold hard surface, making pain surge throughout my body.

I wanted to yell and scream but I had no strength left in me, so I just lay there as I began receding into a dark empty world. My body became numb and I felt like I could finally rest.

Shooting out of my bed I felt sweat trickling down my back. Without even looking down I could feel that my sheets and clothes were drenched in my sweet. I was gonna need a shower after this.

Looking around I noticed that the sun was still pouring into my room, meaning it was still midafternoon and I had only slept for maybe two or three hours. Gathering my clothes, I went into the bathroom to take a much needed shower.

As I stood there under the water, thoughts of the dream kept popping up. Was it possible that it could be a memory and not just a dream? If felt like I had been there before and it was me that was running. But running from what? I know that Ester had found me lying in the street and that’s almost exactly how the dream ended—with me on the floor of some street. Or was my mind just fabricating a memory of its own and trying to make it mine?

“Damn it!” Getting upset at the fact that I couldn’t remember anything I swung my arm out, creating a small dent in the shower wall. Expecting pain to shoot through my arm, I was surprised by the fact that it didn’t hurt at all. Looking at my fist I expected there to be some blood but saw that it was in perfect condition, without a scratch to be seen. “What the...”

“Sam! What was that noise?” Ester called out from behind the bathroom door.

“Umm nothing. I…umm…I accidentally fell,” I said, saying the first thing to come to mind. “Don’t worry though, I’m fine.”

“Well hurry up Sam. We’ll be leaving soon,” Ester called out.

Damn it, was it that late already? Oh well, I guess I could get fixed somehow before the came back home. Turning the water off I began to dry off and get dressed.
