"When did I say that?" I managed to her arm around my shoulder and help her stand up. Her hair reeked of hairspray."

I ignored her question. "Where's your coat?"

"I don't fucking know!" Peyton moved her limp arm toward the crowd, her alcohol filled breath hitting my skin. "Somewhere out there or some shit."

Campus is just a block away, it'll be fine.
"Come on, let's go."

Countless neon lights were much different than moonlight. One can be calming and natural to someone and the other a distraction to someone else. Maybe it works vice versa, or maybe it happens with only one of them. I learned that the first time I stepped into and out of the clubhouse to pick up some friends.

The walk wasn't long, but we had to stop every once in a while for Peyton to find stability. I ended up carrying her shoes which had heels that were too long. Once we made it to our calm and silent dorm rooms (that were much more preferable in my opinion) I pushed the door open to our messy room. It had to be close to midnight already.

"Alright, we're here," I quietly told her, keeping her steady as she staggered inside before me. Without another word, she collapsed onto her bed, her head hitting the pillow with another groan. That's when I thought about how helpful it was that only one of us had a loft.

"...That was great," Peyton said tiredly.

I snorted. "Can't really say I agree."

"You're no fun," She pouted.

"I'm the most un-fun person you will ever meet." I said back with a smile.

"Hey Y/N?"

"Hm," I placed her shoes near her small dresser.

"Thanks."

When I looked back, she was already fast asleep. Most weekends, this became a familiar routine. Peyton would go out and drunk text me or someone else to pick her up. This time I actually tried to go to that party. That counts for something in college, right?

I tore off my clothes and changed into something comfortable before sinking into my own bed closer to the ceiling. As soon as my body touched the sheets I felt limp. I assumed part of the party followed me back because echoes of the music repeated in my mind. My head still pounded.

"Where the crap were you?"

If it wasn't Tasha's exclamation that startled me through my earphones, it was her aggressive grip on my shoulder. They fell out once I slightly jumped.

"Oh my- Geez, Tash, don't do that!" I ran my fingers through my hair, gathering up the books I had dropped around my chair. There was a wave of shushing from other people in the library that ensued after our interaction.

She flipped her long brown hair back and laugh. "I think I'm gonna keep doing that."

Tasha was a girl who shared a class with me. We just so happened to be sitting in the same area next to each other in the lecture hall, so we decided to be study buddies. Our class wasn't the easiest, so it was helpful.

"Anyway, where were you last night?" She asked, tilting her head. "I thought we were gonna meet for the project and exam."

I let out an exhausted but guilty sigh. "I'm sorry, I planned to go later last night like around 7:00, but I ended up staying late at a party but-"

"Holy shit, Y/N L/N went out to a party?" My friend's eyes widened as her hands held her cheeks in sarcastic shock.

"That's not the thing though, I had to wait for my roommate because I couldn't have her stumble back to the room drunk and possibly die or get hurt..."

"Peyton? Again? Y/N, babe..." Tasha crossed her arms and shook her head.

"I know, I don't always have to do that." I couldn't help it though. I never could and I never will be. Not just with Peyton. "Can we make it up today though? Like maybe during lunch?"

After a short silence, Tasha pursed her lips and then let out a sigh. "Okay, that should be fine. This'll all be over soon anyway, we only have this semester and then we're done. Come on, you have a paper due tomorrow too.

Quickly, I gathered my things in my bag and threw it over my shoulder. With a smile, I followed my friend. Instead of a backpack, Tasha wore a crossbody, so it revealed the words on her leather jacket: 'BAD CHOICES MAKE GOOD STORIES.' She claims that she stole the thing, but I doubt it.

Almost the end of the semester... It's really been that long, huh? I wonder how everyone's doing back home. And Connor's voicemail! Wonder what that was about too...
