"Well... At first it was a dream I had a couple months ago." Will begins to tell me the details of it. All of his patients who hadn't survived, all in one place just to terrorize him.
"I'm... so sorry, Will." I say quietly.
"It's... It's fine, really. I've forgotten about it. After that it was a call from home."
Naomi Solace.
Will's mother.
From what he's told me, she's a very nice woman. She used to be an alt country singer and I'm pretty sure she went on a couple tours. She fell in love with Apollo, had Will, and soon after, her career crashed because of her manager becoming really toxic and saying weird things about Will and shaming Naomi for having him.
Eventually, Naomi quit her record deal, fired her manager, and decided to care for Will full time. It was stressful considering she had to find a new job and later on, she turned to religion for comfort. She got really into that and donated to the church and everything which left her with even less money.
She started working as a waitress in this little diner and had a second job as a cleaning lady in this five-star hotel. They had somewhat of a steady income but she still had to let Will go to camp so she could manage her money better. "And," he continues, "she wants me to go home for the school year." I gulp. Home for the school year?
"And what did you say?" I ask, trying to keep my voice calm.
"Well, considering it's November now," He answers sarcastically. "I told her I was staying here. Besides, there's something more important to me here than school." He says. He then sinks to the floor and leans in to kiss me. I smile as I think about his words. I'm more important to him than school!
"But," he starts as he pulls away, "she asked me to at least come for the next few weeks with my... um, significant other and maybe some friends." I roll my eyes and think for a second.
"Okay." I say.
"Okay what?"
"Okay, I'll go."
"Wait, what? No, I wasn't even planning on going!"
"Well, now you are."
"No, I don't want to-"
"Will." I say sternly, finally silencing his pleas. He starts to pace around the room and I grab his arm to stop him. "You are going to see your mother. If I-" I cut myself off and mentally slap myself. I was going to say, if I had that chance, I would take it in a heartbeat, but that's not really fair. I hardly know anything about Will's mortal family and what they're like now so I shouldn't push him too hard, but still... "Family is the most important thing." I say instead. At this, his posture slumps and a look of pity appears on his face.
"I know what you were going to say." He says. "I'm sorry-" I cut him off.
"And that's why I wasn't going to say it."
"My mom," He changes the subject to which I'm thankful for. "She's... I haven't seen her in years. Who knows what she could be like now?"
"It'll be fine." I say as I stand up and pull him in for a hug.
"Unless it's not." Will counters.
