Chapter Eight : the Indoraptor

Start from the beginning

You leaned your weight against the wall, scanning the barren halls as he worked away at the wires and controls of the elevator. Only a few minutes passed before there was a ding and the door at the end of the hall began to slide open.

Immediately, you were on edge and your muscles tensed, until you realized it was actually the elevator doors. You flushed in embarrassment, glancing away from the slightly amused Owen.

Behind you, something sounded and crashed and you spun to find a Dracorex recovering from hitting the wall.

Owen and you shared a glance, "Hey there, buddy."

It looked up at you two with wide eyes. You found it impossibly adorable, however you also knew what you were about to use it for. You apologized silently if it became injured or even died.

You and Owen herded the Dracorex into the elevator before hurriedly climbing through the ceiling and crouching atop. You assisted Owen as the elevator began to move.

Once it stopped, you listened to the sounds of the Dracorex tearing into the guests and their screams. Owen dropped through the opening, with you quickly following suit.

The drop slightly hurt your ankles, but you brushed it off as Owen rushed a man with a gun, fighting for hold of it. As bullets blazed wildly, the Indoraptor began to roar wildly.

More men rushed Owen, and one even came after you. He held an electric staff meant for the dinosaurs, which you dodged as he stabbed at you.

You twisted, striking at his throat with your fingers. As he stumbled back, gasping for air, you seized the staff and electrocuted him and the man Owen was combatting. Owen and you locked eyes for a very brief moment before you each turned your attention to the Indoraptor as its cage began to move toward the interior.

Owen reacted faster than you, shoving through men to the lever and yanking it back so that the Indoraptor's cage moved back to its display position.

You met him at the lever, short circuiting the wires using the electric staff to prevent them moving the raptor.

Owen took your hand, making you drop the staff as he roughly dragged you back and toward where you had left Claire and Maisie. You panted, struggling to keep up with all of the commotion, especially as Owen guided your group down the halls and toward another elevator to escape.

"Stop!" the familiar voice made you whirl to find Mills with two armed bodyguards, their rifles aimed straight at you. Instinctively, Owen moved in front of you, Claire, and Maisie, prepared to take bullets to protect you.

"You two really do deserve each other," Mills spat, him and his guards approaching. His attention turned toward Maisie and he gestured for her to follow, "Maisie, come with me."

"You got your money," Owen's voice was breathy. You couldn't tell if it was from exhaustion or exasperation.

"Just walk away," you finished, stepping forward to stand beside Owen. You were his equal, not someone he needed to protect. Not anymore.

"What are you going to do?" Mills challenged with irritation flitting across his face.

"We're gonna stop this!" Claire growled, nearly interrupting him as she held Maisie comfortingly. "All of it."

"How?" Mills roared, his voice echoing. "What, are you gonna go back in time before Hammond decided to play God? You can't put it back in the box!"

"We have to try," Claire said. You looked toward her and Maisie, could you even do it? Was it truly possible? You didn't know, but you knew you'd die trying.

"It's too late. Maisie, come," he commanded with an icy glare. When the three of us moved to block her from them, he sighed. "So you're going to take care of her, huh? You have no idea what she is."

What did he mean? You could sense your bafflement mirrored with Claire and Owen.

"What do you think drove Hammond and Lockwood apart? Huh? Lockwood never had a grandchild. He just wanted his daughter back," Claire and Owen shared a glance while you reached behind your brother to grab the girl's hand. Her fingers trembled against your palm.

"And he had the technology; he created another. He made her again," Mills explained with his odd hand gestures.

You parted your lips, prepared to tell him to go to hell, however a blur of black and gold scales rushed past Mills, taking his two guards in one swoop.

Your hand tightened around Maisie's, your eyes wide. Your heart sank with a dreadful fear and an almost deja-vu feeling.

The Indoraptor was loose.
