His favored option was the league of shadows. It was set in high and cold mountains, something he enjoyed. At first, he hated Ryan for betraying his trust, but now, he wanted to be with him more than anything.
"Just letting you know, I'm joining the league of shadows." Danny informed his evil half, who was apparently sleeping or being offline.
Where did I put my phone? Danny asked himself as he was searching his bedroom. His phone rang in his pocket and he picked it up.
"I'm so sorry Danny..." Ryan started speaking but he was cut off by his friend.
"I'm sorry Ryan, I can't talk now. I'm looking for my phone." He said and then he hung up. When the phone rang the second time, he picked it up again.
"Did you find your phone?" Ryan asked amused.
"Yeah..." Danny replied sheepishly.
"I wanted to apologize..."
"I wanted to apologize..." both of them started at the same time.
"You first."
"I wanted to apologize for judging you so quickly. When I got the mail, I felt betrayed, but now, I would like to meet up."
"I would like to apologize for keeping it a secret. I may have known about you from the beginning, but our friendship was real." The halfa smiled at those words. He was really glad that his best friend was his real best friend, not just a play of higher forces.
"I'm sorry, can't talk right now. Can we meet?"
"When."
"In half an hour, at your place."
"Fine with me." Ryan said and hung the phone. Danny felt strangely happy, as if he was going on some sort of a vacation. He stuffed back his drawer and then, he took out a big duffel bag from under his bed.
Danny soon packed all of his belongings, leaving only few clothes. With a bag over his shoulder, Danny opened his window and crouched at the edge.
"Now or never." He whispered and let two white rings appear. They revealed the adult form of his future ghost side. Danny expected Dan to take over as soon as he got the opportunity, but he didn't, leaving Danny in control over their body.
The halfa turned invisible and intangible so the cameras and heat sensors wouldn't spot him. It was a nice feeling to be in the air again. The wind whipping your face and ruffling your hair. In his case a campfire.
In matter of minutes, he was hovering near to Ryan's bedroom window. He knocked lightly, letting his presence get known. The other teenager soon opened the window and let Danny inside.
"Why doesn't it surprise me." Ryan greeted with a smirk. Danny changed back into his human form and hugged his best friend.
"I missed you man." Ryan's room wasn't a big one. It reminded him of Damian's room, but in a smaller version. The walls were covered with weapons of all kinds, making it dangerous to even walk around. The rest of the room was simple, a bed, a wardrobe and a desk. In the corner stood a human sized dummy, pierced by katanas in its lethal places.
"Nice collection." Danny commented as he looked around. "May I?" He asked and pointed at a katana. He got a nod in reply.
"Do you know how to use it?" He asked, eyeing his guest interestedly.
"Yeah, Damian taught me." The halfa sighed and juggled with the shiny sword. Danny made a stabbing motion towards his best friend, who just laughed it off.
"I'm not the dummy here. If you want to stab someone, there's my lovely assistant in the corner." Danny instinctively turned towards the corner Ryan mentioned, looking for any tied people. When he found the stabbed practice dummy, he sighed in relief.
"I thought you meant a real person." Danny chuckled and did another move with the katana.
"Well, I had a visitor yesterday." With the word 'visitor', Danny didn't think of anything pretty.
"He's an assassin, he kills. Get over it Fenton." Danny scolded himself for judging his friend.
"I'm s..." Ryan started but Danny cut him mid word.
"It's okay, I just need to get used to it." The halfa gave him a small smile. The sword wasn't interesting anymore so he put it back on the wall.
"You can keep it, I have millions of others." The blonde boy smiled and put the sword into Danny's hands again. "And take this holster."
Danny thanked his friend for the deadly gift. He didn't want it to hang by his side right away so he packed it in his already full bag.
Truly, Ryan's parents weren't at home, they were on a training in the mountains. Thankfully, it wasn't the awkward situation when you a bring a total stranger and introduce him or her to your parents.
They sat in a large and modern kitchen, eating something from the fridge. It wasn't as good as Alfred's cooking but it was good.
"If you don't want to answer, you don't have to. What made you change your mind?" The teen asked, looking at Danny from the opposite side of the table.
"The Waynes were becoming unbearable. Not that they were bad, but..." Danny didn't know how to finish his sentence.
"People do that often." Ryan shrugged.
"How is it in the league?" The halfa asked while he was putting his plate into the dishwasher.
"It's kind of great and since I'm the only kid there at the moment, I feel very honored."
"Damian was the other child." Danny said, thinking about his brothers history. "Talia handed him over to Bruce few years back."
"Yes, that's true but we didn't see each other very often. He was always with his mother of grandfather. You know, the higher circles." Ryan explained and cleaned the table after them. "That's why he keeps glaring at me, he's trying to place my face, I know he recognized me."
"I'm sorry but I'm tired. Is there a place I can sleep?" Danny asked, his eyelids growing heavier each passing second. He didn't get much sleep these days and it was catching up with him.
"You can sleep on the couch. I'll bring you a pillow and a blanket." The blonde smiled and left the room. Soon he returned with a cushion and a blanket and handed it to his guest.
"Thanks." Danny said as he took those things from his friend. "It means a lot."
"Anytime." Ryan replied and they parted their ways, both heading for their beds. Danny was too tired to bother with changing into his pajamas so he just lied down and fell asleep immediately.
"Did you really think that I would just join your army?" The ghost asked smirking, standing over a beaten man.
"No, that's why I made some precautions." The man covered in shadows replied and his head fell limp.
