~ Thomas' P.O.V. ~
"We need you." Janson told me. His face looked even more rat-like on the giant screens around me.
"We've been using our data to select a Final Candidate, and you're the one. (y/n) is another potential candidate, but you know, some things don't work out correctly." He continued on. I felt surprise run through me.
"I thought she wasn't immune?" Janson smiled, shrugging.
"She isn't immune. We have yet to figure out why the data reads the way it does. Until then, we need you, Thomas. It all rests on your shoulders. All of this has always led back to you." I stared at him.
"I'll think about it." Janson nodded.
"Yes, yes, I'm sure you will. I have something to tell you, only because it will influence you into the correct decision, but I'm afraid your friends, Newt and (y/n) are in tremendous amount of trouble." I felt the sick, churning feeling build in my stomach. I wanted to throw up. I wanted Janson to shut up.
"What kind of trouble? What did you do to them?" Janson chuckled lightly.
"We did nothing, but as you know both are not immune. Both have the Flare. Newt, however, seems to be succumbing more quickly than (y/n) is. You were already seeing symptoms of anger and loss of concentration before you left him with (y/n). This means he'll be spiraling into madness very soon, and in the condition (y/n) is in, just getting to walk again and her recent wound, this could end up very bad for her. In the end, she will end up just as mad, but imagine how heart broken she may be when he goes before she does..." I stared at the screen, at Janson's ugly, snarling face.
"I feel like you're enjoying this." Janson shook his head.
"I'm just doing my job. You have the chance to save the both of them, you really do."
"Just go." I muttered, trying to push back the rolling images in my mind of (y/n) and Newt both being hurt or dead.
"I hope you come. Time is running out." I stared back into his empty, beading eyes.
~ (y/n)'s P.O.V. ~
I woke up to men shouting, then I was being pulled up out of Newt's grasp.
"Come on, wake up love, they've found us." I groaned, opening my eyes as one of the men holding me hit me in the stomach. I wheezed out, coughing as I keeled over in their hold. I heard Newt's growl as he fought against the three men holding onto him.
"You've got a bounty on your head, so we can't hurt you, sweetheart, but the other Crank? We can do as we like." I tossed myself in their hold as one of the men pushed Newt into the wall. They slammed his face into the wall and I felt a surge of anger take over me. I kicked myself back in the men's hold, hitting one of their knees. I heard a crack as the man fell, crying out. I took my now free hand, punching the other man that held me. He stumbled from me, holding his face. I turned, punching him again. My vision seemed to fill with red as the other men cried out behind me. I dropped to the ground as he swung at me, hooking a finger around the man's gun, pulling it out, then I clicked the safety off and pointed it at the man. I felt two hands grab me from behind and I slammed my head back. I pointed at the man in front of me, shooting his leg. I turned to the man who had grabbed me, pointing the gun at him next.
"You better let my boyfriend go, or you will not like how short your life is going to get." The men holding Newt stared at me, then looked to the men behind me. I growled.
"I said let him the shuck go!" I shot one of the men holding Newt in the shoulder, scared I would hit Newt if I shot anywhere else. When he didn't let go of Newt, I shot again, making him grunt out, holding his shoulder as he moved to hold the wall. The second man that had been holding Newt let him go. "Let him come to me." The man stayed back as Newt walked to me. He was watching the men behind me. Blood came down his nose slowly. I grabbed Newt's hand and held the gun out in my other hand, making sure the last two standing men stayed in their place. When Newt and I were out of the Berg, I slammed a button on the side, closing and locking the Berg door with the code Jorge had told us. When the door closed, I could see a giant crater in the side.
"Love, put the gun down, we're safe." I kept the gun pointing at the door for a moment, hearing some of the calls for help from the men inside. I slowly clicked the safety back on, putting the gun back down.
"We should go. Before they figure a way out and beat our ass." Newt nodded as I placed the gun down by the Berg, backing away from it.
"Where should we go?" I shrugged, linking my fingers through his as a faint burn came to my side where I had been shot earlier. All of this action wasn't good for it.
"We try to get into the city, I guess, find someone we know." Newt nodded.
"Lead the way, love." I nodded, looking back to the city walls in the distance. I pulled Newt along behind me, hearing the faint banging on the metal door as we left the men behind.
