I shouldn't have said that. She looks pissed from what I can tell. We stay quiet while I follow her for a while until we are finally leaving the barracks.
Eventually, we end up in this building that seems to be a huge food court-
*Growl!*
Holy shit, I haven't eaten in days!
"So you're hungry, dumbass?"
"Yes, I am. I haven't eaten for a long time... And stop calling me that."
"Then stop being one. We can get some food after we get your clothes. I'm not gonna be out with you looking like that."
We head to this far corner of the building and there's a very wide staircase we head down...
Holy shit...
I'm mesmerized! There's a whole fucking city underground. Tons of pretty lights, tons of markets, tons of restaurants, and just all sorts of places.
"Woah."
"Yeah, it's very pretty, huh?"
"No kidding. What is this place?"
"Well, this side is just the marketplace. You can buy just about anything you need here."
"Wait, uh, I don't have any cash on me."
She hits me in the back of the head...
"Dumbass, we don't use cash here, it's called units."
She slides two fingers on her wrist toward her palm and a floating, 1x1 inch, yellow, glowing cube appears...
"Woah."
She kinda chuckles and smiles at my amazement...
"Yeah, this is our currency here. It all combines together into one if you put multiple near each other or if it's just taken in a large amount from your bank like I just did it's whatever amount you take out. There are different ones depending on their value. This is worth ten and that's the lowest it can go. Now pay attention okay, I'm going to pull out ninety."
She pulls another yellow unit out.
"I thought that was ten?"
"Stupid, I said pay attention. As I said, once it reaches a value, it changes."
She put the two floating units together and they merge and it changed its color to green.
"This is the hundreds value and the thousands which is blue, hundred-thousands which are purple, then it goes on to millions and beyond while following the color wheel to orange, then it turns to black and finally, the most expensive being white and it won't combine anymore than that."
"Wow. That's awesome!"
"Now stupid, I'm paying for you so don't worry about not having any units."
"Really?!"
"Look just shut up okay. I'm paying mostly so I don't have a shitty slob in my house."
Hmm yeah, I guess that does make sense.
She takes me to this place called-
"Owens Ravissante"
Wow, this place is hella fancy. Can she even afford this?
"Hey, Lizzie, we don't need to buy anything expensive, y'know!?"
"Nathaniel shut the hell up! This is fine for me and I won't waste my units on any of that cheap crap."
"Uhm... Hey, I was wondering, how do you have units? I mean, General said you lost everything, that's why I'm asking."
She turns to me grabs me and takes me to the back of the store.
She holds my shoulders and looks me in the eyes.
"Nathaniel, I need to talk to you about something very serious, okay? I don't want any bullshit and I just need the truth, okay?"
"Yeah, of course."
My heart's pounding. I have butterflies but, I'm scared and my legs are weak...
"You told me Zander isn't who I think he is.
What did you mean by that and is there something he's hiding?"
"Lizzie, you need to leave him!"
I completely forgot about that and that just came out. She put her hand over my mouth and punched the fuck out of my ribs.
"Shut the fuck up!"
She pauses thinking...
"Why? What is he doing?"
Her voice got really soft. She seems saddened of course... but, I've never thought she could ever look this way. She seems fragile. Harmless. Gah, I need to tell her.
"Today or whatever you wanna call it, I was hiding from him in the showers and I heard him, Johnny, and Ryker laughing and talking. I only paid attention when they mentioned you. Lizzie, I don't think he loves you with real love. I think he only wants you to have sex and, as he made it seem, claim you. Once I confronted him about it, they tried to bury me."
She kinda stays quiet for a minute...
She looked as though she was coming to a realization.
She stayed quiet for a couple more minutes till she eventually takes off her glasses and looks at me, almost in tears...
"How... How can I trust you?"
"I can't tell you to trust me but, I will say... I have no reason to lie. We've never lied to each other before, when you say shit to me you've always been honest with how you feel, and so have I. Even though I get my ass kicked for it but, that's all the more reason that you know I'm honest."
"I-"
She hugs me!
My heart's racing and I don't even know why. I just feel butterflies...
"I believe you, Nathaniel."
After a moment she lets go and looks at me.
"Go get some expensive ass clothes and let's spend all that bastard's units!"
Ahh I see, she's using Zanders bank account...
Zander...
