"And why the hell didn't we just ring her doorbell?" Jeff asks generating a groundswell of approval among the passengers.
"Because if she wasn't at home it wouldn't have proved anything. She could say she was studying at some college mate's place, or went to the grocery or anywhere else. On the other hand, if she was at home we'd have made an ass of ourselves. Whereas, if we go to Portland tonight and find her there we'll suss her out, she'll have no excuses. If she's not there, well, we'll simply be there to support our friends!"
"So we're going to Portland so you don't make an ass of yourself?" I state and everybody laughs.
"Exactly, problems?" Stone stops and turns around at the red traffic lights, giving us all a collective angry look.
"Nah, if you're driving also on the way back" Chris shrugs.
"That's ok for me" Gossard answers mocking his shrug.
"Great, so we can take advantage of Stone's matters of principles to have some fun! Maybe I can get the most out of my musician charm too tonight" I say as I wipe the steamy window with my hands.
"With Meg?" Jeff asks.
"No, with someone else!"
"To make Meg jealous?" Jeff insists.
"God, it's all over with Meg, you still don't get it?"
"Yeah, sure..." Jeff leans out and makes my hat fall.
"Stop it, you idiot!" I tell him as I look for my hat on the floor.
"Come on, Jeff, didn't you notice Mike was already using his musician magic fluid on Violet?" Kim laughs.
"Yeah, with no results though!" I reply "Just like anybody else in here. That chick only has eyes for one guy... what do you think, Eddie?" I ask bothering him for the second time, as I feel someone kicking my seat. What the fuck, Jeff?
"Ehm what? Me? I don't know..." Ed answers, acting dumb I think.
"You don't know? Oh come on, she couldn't take her eyes off you at the pub! And kept talking to you only. You scored man!" I tell him, and another kick from my bassplayer follows.
"It's only because we come from the same area, she's a little homesick maybe... and I wouldn't be interested anyways"
"What?! Are you crazy? You're single now, aren't you? Just try and have a go" here it comes, the third kick, the hardest, as I say the word single.
"I don't... I don't really feel like, Mike"
"By the way, you're single, right? And stop kicking me, Jeff! You all wanna know, but I'm the only one who has the guts to ask him. So what the fuck has happened with your girlfiend? Did you fight or you're on a break or shit like that?
"We broke up, permanently"
"Oh I'm sorry... one more reason to party with a certain blondie! Fuck, you've been single for how long? A few days, and you already picked a hottie up, don't think about it too much" I suggest, while Jeff, ignoring my previous words, has started punching the back of my seat instead of kicking it.
"Uhm I'm not in the mood for that right now... and she's not my type anyway"
"What?!" we all yell along.
Ok, you're handsome and all, but you're way too picky my fiend.
"Can you see them?" I ask Violet, who's sitting on the backseat of my car with Matt.
"Yeah, here they are, they reached us. Your friend has a really, how can I say, laid back driving style!"
