抖阴社区

Unsurprisingly, the plague doctor had chose to help me to make things go faster. Each time we had reached for the same thing, I almost found it cute how fast he yanked his hand away immediately after noticing it, almost as if he were terrified of the thought doing something wrong to me. Yet, I also pitied it at the same time, so I always gave a quiet "it's okay" whenever he did it. He never gave a response, but I didn't mind.

We ended up finding nothing, and I was almost reluctant to take steps back from him, as there was something calming about standing so close. Yet, I knew I had to, and he probably didn't want me to linger anyway, so I forced myself to.

When we had left, it had been several minutes of silence and me being in deep thought before a random idea of conversation popped up in my head.

I looked up to him. "Did you learn anything in that binder about yourself?"

He hadn't returned the gaze, instead focusing on the continuous dimmed hall ahead of us. "That I don't know what an X-Ray is."

I let a corner of my mouth tug upwards. "You get to see the bones of something that has bones in them, usually."

"Does it kill them?" He sounded so innocent— So curious.

"Wh—" I gave an amused huff. "No, it doesn't kill them."

"Then how do you see the bones?" Concern was riddled in his tone as he finally fixated his eyes on me.

I had opened my mouth to reply, but then I realised I had no idea how to explain. At least, not without confusing him even more. "Uh... Best I don't explain."

He returned to looking ahead of us. "How confusing. Humans are strange."

"I thought modern technology was your problem?" I teased, continuing to walk beside him.

"Both, I think. Or maybe you're confusing..." 049 mused, head lifting a slight bit.

"No, I'm not confusing, you're just—"

Abruptly, he rushed forward just as we had gotten to a crossroad of corridors, aiming for the right, and completely negating my existence.

Immediately knowing what it was, I had jumped closer to him and reached my arms out, initially going for his hand, before remembering, and then resorting to grasping his shoulders, hoping to at least be able to do a better job of stopping him compared to last time.

He thrashed, naturally, intending to get to whoever he sensed at seemingly all costs, and shot a glare behind him to me. "Release me... They're sick! I need to help! Help them!"

Teeth gritting, I didn't get too far in pulling him back, and had to resort to more direct means to stop him. "I am too!"

Whipping around, he was facing me before I knew it, and I was leaning away from him and having to take a few steps back as he had leaned forward.

"No, you're not!" That erratic look was present in his eyes just like the first time. "Do not waste my time with such claims! They need help! Help only I can—"

His shoulders slumped, lids appearing to fall halfway over his eyes, falling silent as he gazed at me with a more stoic front. There was nothing but the distant scream of a woman in pain that was heard before it had truly fallen into silence.

The beak of his mask was inches away from my nose, and I had ultimately ended up against the wall, a majority of my view of the hall being obscured by his overwhelming form. He said nothing, and just stared at me as I did him.
