"I live in a world of idiots..." You sighed heavily turning towards Adam, you prayed he said something smart.
"Adam, you've been quiet. See anything?" You questioned him, giving him a chance. You watched him as he seemed to think for a while. "You clearly know something, speak up. You're not gonna make it as a doctor if you're shy." You again spoke. Adam's eyes darted towards you before he nodded.
"Yes, Dr. Y/L/N, if I may." He stepped towards the body and you stepped to the side, letting him tell you what he knew. "The bruising patterns indicate there was a brute amount of force coming from either side of her neck, as Eric said, this tells us she was indeed strangled. Looking at the diameter of the bruises can give us an approximate hand size, these are definitely big enough for me to confidently conclude her attacker was a male."
You stared at Adam a long time as he shifted uncomfortably under your gaze, rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly. He was unsure of what he'd said.
"Adam, don't be unsure of yourself, that was a brilliant observation." You told him, you didn't hand out praise like that often, but this was the first intern who'd seen something like that so quickly. You were impressed. "Did either of you notice her engagement ring?" You questioned, pulling up her left hand to show her ring.
"Yes." They both nodded, not seeming how it was of importance.
"Have you looked over the x-rays then?" You questioned, to which they nodded. Adam handed you over a package and you opened it, pulling out the x-rays. You scanned them quickly, nodding as you looked over them. You flipped through them all to confirm your suspicions. They showed just what you thought they would. "Can either of you tell me what these show?"
"Well there was a complete fracture of the left ulna and a partial fracture to the left radius. There is also a depressed fracture on the right temporal and parietal skull bones." Eric surprisingly spoke.
You nodded. "Yes, and what do those breaks mean?" Adam quickly piped up.
"She was blocking an attack with her left arm." He demonstrated by holding his arm up across his face. "Then her head was slammed into something with extreme force. That's why there's no defensive wounds from the stabbing." He concluded.
"Yes, good. That was simple, but I'm more interested in her past breaks. Notice anything?" You held the x-rays back out towards the two and they flipped through them together. Eric shook his head, not understanding, but Adam's eyes went wide.
"She has previous injuries that point to abuse. Several healed spiral fractures on her arms, all in different stages of healing, how could I miss that?!" He exclaimed, looking mad at himself. Eric stood by his side, looking annoyed he hadn't noticed it. He wouldn't have anyway. You knew he wouldn't be holding his PhD much longer.
"You were focused on her recent injuries, you'll get to the point of noticing every detail soon enough." Adam looked proud of that and you turned back towards the body. "Anyway, her first spiral break looks to be two years old, but the most recent one only happened right before she was killed. Her ring is new, no more than a month old." You stated. "Her fiancé was the one that was abusing her."
"Now, for the lacerations on her stomach and arms, look at them closely. Notice how deep and random they are? Can you tell me what that means?" You turned around after gesturing to her various wounds.
As expected, Adam was quick to answer. "The lacerations weren't only random, the first few were hesitant. The attacker wasn't sure in what he was doing, probably fueled by rage, he wasn't planning the attack. As the wounds got more controlled and deeper, the attacker's anger increased. He probably didn't even realize what he was doing, he was so blinded with anger."
