The mind-link came from no other than my mate, as he continued to stare into my eyes.
And he was right. How else would Snider get a hold of my ring? But who the fuck would be suicidal enough to betray their own Alpha?
"What? What's going on?" Hunter asked, his eyes skipping between the two of us.
However, because he didn't have a mind-link, we couldn't just tell him. Although the rest of the pack didn't look like they were paying attention to us, we could never be sure. The fucking traitor could be amongst them for all we knew.
I could almost see the wheels starting to turn inside Blake's head. He was already starting to come up with a plan on how to figure out who the traitor was.
However, because I had never been good with waiting patiently or following a well constructed plan, I decided to take things into my own hands. I considered myself a pretty good judge of character, so I was sure I could quickly gather who it was.
Right then I saw Blake's aunt walk past the open doorway of the dining room. One look at her told me I had my culprit.
Not wasting the opportunity, I shot up from my chair and stalked after her. I followed her inside the kitchen, where she was standing in front of the open fridge.
"I should have known it was you." I didn't try to hide my disdain. I couldn't believe she would do this to her own nephew. Then again, some people were just plain evil.
"What are you doing, Ren?" Blake's voice came from the doorway.
I knew that both he and Hunter had followed me to the kitchen, but I ignored them. I kept my eyes focused on my target, who slowly turned to face me. Her eyes narrowed as she caught sight of me, but then relaxed as they landed on Blake.
In the end, she settled for a confused expression, which I didn't buy for a second. She was pretending to be clueless and I wasn't going to fall into her trap.
"We have our traitor right here, don't we?" I chuckled at her gasp.
I had to admit that she was a fairly good actress. Her expression of surprise could almost be believable.
"Who is she?" Hunter wondered, confused to what was going on.
"She's my aunt." Blake answered. "Ren, what are you doing? Lavinia is not the traitor." He sounded absolutely sure of himself. How naïve he was.
"Traitor?" Her eyes looked like they would pop right out of her head, if she were to open them any wider. "Blake, what's going on?"
"Don't even try acting like a victim." I waved off her every weak attempt. "You may be able to fool Blake, but you haven't fooled me. I know what kind of person you really are. Since the moment we first met, you've shown me your true colors."
"What are you talking about?" Blake still didn't know about anything that had transpired between his aunt and me. Maybe it was time to enlighten him.
"Hasn't your precious aunt told you she's been trying to get rid of me since the moment I first came here?" I kept my eyes focused on the woman, despite talking to Blake. I wanted to see her expression as she realized she'd lost. "She may act all sweet and disgusting around the rest of you, but she showed who she really is to me. A bitter old lady. Tell him how you've been trying to make me leave. Tell him."
"I... I..."
I took perverse satisfaction in seeing her struggle for words. She had no way of escaping now.
"And now you've moved on to betraying your own pack." I was aching to wrap my hands around her throat and see her burn. "I must admit that the idea to use my ring as proof I was dead had been clever. Tell me was it your idea or Snider's? I'm interested to know what you got out of betraying Red Moon."
