The Blind Banker: Chapter 20

Start from the beginning

"No, you just don't understand them." Sherlock added through heavy breaths as you continued to run.

"Wow, I can't believe you would mention that." You spoke sarcastically. You could almost feel Sherlock giving you a dirty look behind your back.

Eventually you quickly slowed your run, putting a hand on Sherlock's chest to stop him. You walked quietly, listening as you tried to get a hold of your breathing.

"The tunnel is right here." You whispered, trying to listen and see if you could make out words. You began to hear a harsh woman's voice as you made your way quietly into the tunnel.

"Careful," Sherlock whispered. "Any loud noise will bounce off these walls and they'll be able to hear us loud and clear." You rolled your eyes at Sherlock, you obviously knew that.

"I have a minor in physics, Sherlock. I know!" You whispered, crouching down as you saw flickering light ahead. A fire.

"I was just teasing." Sherlock said and you turned to look at him, his face was completely serious.

"You make no sense." You shook your head, placing your hands on the ground to balance your weight as you crouched low, trying to hear what the voices were saying.

"...then one of our people was greedy, he took it, brought it back to London, and you Mr. Holmes have been searching." The lady's voice from earlier rang out. You raised an eyebrow at Sherlock, continuing to listen.

"Please, you got to listen. I'm not... I'm not Sherlock Holmes, you've got to believe me. I haven't found whatever it is you're looking for." John's panicked voice rang out.

"Well, let's go." You whispered, ready to rush towards John. Sherlock grabbed your wrist, yanking you back.

"Wait. We have to wait for the right moment." He whispered. You groaned, obeying and crouching back down.

"I need a volunteer from the audience!" The lady's voice said.

"No, please, please." You heard John beg. You shifted on your feet, wanting to run to John's aid.

"Ah! Thank you lady, you'll do very nicely." An evil tone riddled the women's voice and you began to hear a female's muffled screaming. "Ladies and gentlemen, from the distant moonlit shores of LW1, we present Sherlock Holmes' pretty companion, Y/n L/n, in a death defying act." You groaned, she'd thought Sara was you?! That's really, really quite sad. You needed to fix that.

"Please!" John yelled. You looked over at Sherlock, waiting for his word. "I'm not Sherlock Holmes!" He screamed in distress.

"I don't believe you!" The woman yelled back.

Sherlock lurched into action, and you jumped up behind him.

"You should know. Sherlock Holmes is nothing like him." Sherlock shouted, walking towards them in the tunnel.

"Yeah, and neither is Y/n!" You added, placing your hands angrily on your hips. "Plus, I'm not his companion." You heard a gun cock and both you and Sherlock ducked behind one of the tunnels many turns.

"That's a semi automatic and if you fire it, the bullet will travel over 1,000 meters per second." Sherlock yelled out.

"Well..." The lady asked, not understanding what Sherlock was trying to say.

"Well," Sherlock started as he jumped out whacking a man that was nearing you over the head with a piece of stray wood, causing him to get knocked out cold. You secretly admired his skills from afar and let him have this victory, after all you already won the case. "The radius curvature of these walls is nearly 4 meters. If you miss, the bullet will ricochet. Could hit anyone. It might even bounce off the tunnel and hit you."

You locked eyes with Sherlock and silently communicated, he ran up causing a distraction as you skirted the tunnel wall heading straight for the woman. You heard a crash as Sherlock kicked down a barrel that held a fire inside. The second man that was with the women, ran towards it and you took your chance. You jumped the woman, kicking the gun from her tight grip.

"That's for kidnapping my friend!" You yelled, coming in hot for a punch. You nipped the side of her temple as she lurched for the gun and you yelled. "And that one was for confusing me with her! Really! I'm a genius, I'm kind of insulted!" You raced after her, but she quickly picked up the gun aiming it right at your chest. You scoffed at her, raising your hands slightly. "Do it." You hissed looking into her eyes, she was too much of a coward. She looked over you carefully then began running down the tunnel. You were right. As always.

You launched after her but then heard the gasping sounds of Sherlock choking. You yelled in frustration looking between the woman and Sherlock. It was worth letting her get away to go save Sherlock. She was insignificant compared to him.

Time was almost out and Sara was about to get an arrow to the chest. Right before you made it to Sherlock you heard a crack and the cart moved, causing an arrow to embed itself right into one of the sidekick's chest. He gurgled blood from his mouth, before his hands slacked on the ropes held around Sherlock and he fell back. You rushed Sherlock, quickly helping him get the rope off.

"I'm fine, I'm fine. Help John." He croaked, you nodded, hurrying up to help untie John from his spot on the floor.

He looked up at a tear stained Sara, as Sherlock untied her and John smiled slightly. "Don't worry, our next date won't be like this." You shook your head at John's words as you finished untying him. You were pretty sure there wouldn't be a next date after this.

Later, when the police had arrived, the four of you walked out side by side. John comforting a really shook up Sara who was wrapped up in a blanket. You came across Detective Dimmock and you glanced up at Sherlock. He motioned you ahead, so you continued to walk with John and Sara, hands deep in your coat pockets.
