Chapter 53: Force Conduits

Cole then opens fire at the ice men on the right and Cassie took out the ice men on the left. Once they were taken care of, the two went back on the warehouse and shot out the windows in the warehouse, airing out the gas from the warehouse, then they jump down and Cole fires at the last crate, revealing the safe inside. He then drains it of electricity and Cassie opens it up. "Empty," she answers as she pulls away. "Man, I'm sorry. Look, maybe...maybe we should just call it a day." Zeke tells them, but Cassie shook her head. "No, I'm not giving up," she states.

Cole smiles at her, "Say what now?" Zeke asks and she turns to Cole, "These ice men are hunting these Blast Core down to become whole and I'll be damn if I'm going to let them get them first." she states and paces, "There's one more warehouse we've haven't checked out yet and my money is on that safe hidden in that warehouse is holding the Blast Cores." she states. Cole nods at her, "She's right, the Blast Cores gotta be at that last warehouse and we're going to get them. There's gotta be a reason for all this opposition." Cole states.

Then they both look off running out of the warehouse and glides over the crates on the docks and the land on the fence, "Come on boys, protect the merchandise!" one of the Militia cries out. Then they glide over and pulls themselves up onto the metal construction. "You're about to die. Sparky!" one shouts as he fired an RPG at them, but Cassie threw it back at him and it blows him up. Cole fires at the watchtower and blows up both of the watchtowers.

Then Cassie took out the snipers on the roof as Cassie then jumps down and threw a vortex at them, making them fly back and took out the ones in the warehouse too. Then Cole jumps down and threw rockets at the Militia surround the warehouse. "Bertrand's got a price on their heads!" one calls out and Cassie took him out. Then once the far end was taken care of. They move to the front and Core threw an Ionic freeze at them, freezing them on the spot. Then Cassie pulls lose her whip and crack it at the frozen Militia men, taking them out and clearing out the Militia presence.

Once the Warehouse was cleared, they fired at the crates until the found the safe, they walk up towards the safe and Cole went to open it, but the ground was shaking, the wobbled in their spots, so they turned around and saw an Ice Titan marching towards them, they looked at it in awe as it summons ice from the ground. Then the both of them screamed at the sight of it, it growls at them, making them scream even more and then Cole grips Cassie's arm and they took off running and quickly hid behind the warehouse.

It fires an ice beam at them, but they stay low in cover as it marches towards them, "Okay, Bertrand has gone too far with these icemen!" Cassie shouts as she leans out and fires rockets at it, then Cole pulls her back. "Well, Bertrand is crazy and has literally lost his mind, what else is new?" Cole questions as he pops up and threw grenades at it. Then the pressure of the electric attack broke off one of the titan's arm and Cassie kept firing rocket until both arms were off and it was on its knees, heaving in pain. "I need to recharge!" Cassie calls out, "Got, I got this." he tells her, she nods and ran to the power supply close by.

Cole pulls out his amp, charged at the Titan and then jumps at it, slamming the amp in between the small space of the faceplate. Then he leans back, slowly ripping the ice plate off. Then with an electric burst, the faceplate comes off, revealing whatever was human left in the titan. He then falls back and recharges at the outlet as Cassie ran past him and fires rockets at the Titan, he quickly joins in and they took the Titan down. "Yes! Yeah!" Cole cheers as Cassie exhales and leans against Cole. The Titan then gasps for air, clawing at its throat and then froze, fell forward and shatters into a million pieces. "Take that you overgrown Icicle." she laughs as Cole pats her shoulder.

Then they walk past the ice pile and walk up towards the safe, Cole drains it and Cassie kneels down and opens the safe up. "Oh, hello beautiful." Cassie states, she reaches out and pulls out two Blast Core. "Well, guess what, Zeke," Cole states as he takes one of the Blast Cores. "Anything Good?" Zeke asks as Cassie looks down at her Blast Core. "On yeah, we're real happy," Cole states as he gazes at the Blast Core in his hand. Then Cassie looks inside, seeing something else and she pockets her Blast Core. "And a little bonus as well," she states, pulling out a briefcase. Cole looks down at her. "Look like we just found Bertrand's briefcase." Cole states as Cassie stood up and looks at it, "What's in it?" she asks as Cole took it from her and he opens it up.

I thought Bertrand created these monsters simply to win back the respect of New Marais.

But no. God no, it was much bigger.

I see invoices for Forced Conduits to be shipped out all over the world.

Boxed-product supermen for sale to any warlord with cash.

Cassie was disgusted with the plans Bertrand had for them if she didn't hate him then. She definitely despises him now.

Unreal.

This guy's gonna single-handedly start a new arms race. All nations fighting for control for People of Mass Destruction.

It's weird though. I mean could this really be just about the money? When this guy just gives it away?

What's he doing? Is he trying to buy respect? Pay his way into Heaven?

No, it doesn't make any sense. A guy like that, he's out to save the world some grand Old Testament kind of way

Cassie calls him a fanatic, believing that he's following the grand plan of God or whatnot.

I'm just not seeing the bigger picture yet.

Cole and Cassie limped away from the torn warehouse and the sat in front of the newspaper crate and sat there, both of them were tired from all the fighting they were just doing, it's exhausting having to run around the whole city, trying to take every enemy down. Cole's phone went off and he answers it. "So, what was in the case?" Zeke asks him, Cassie exhales as she lays her head against his shoulder. "I'm still trying to figure that out." Cole huffs as he leans his head back against the metal box. "You sound tired. You should swing on by, take a load off." Zeke informs him.

Cassie nods her head weakly on Cole's shoulder and he nods as well, "Yeah...maybe we better, we'll show you our new Blast Core." Cole states then he hung up. "Can we rest right here for a little while longer?" Cassie asks him Cole looks down at her and nods, "Yeah, yeah. We can do that?" he states and they both just sat there, resting their bodies before someone was going to need their help again.
