chapter thirteen | her aged cognac

Start from the beginning

"Jenny, on your way home can you pick up some stuff for us?" Jesse asked.

The last thing Jenny wanted to do was go to the store all sweaty and gross.

"I'm too tired to do that," she complained. "Why don't you go do it yourself?"

She could almost hear her twin roll his eyes over the phone. "Because I'm busy right now and you're already coming home soon anyways. Why not make a detour before you do that."

"And what would I be getting out of this exactly?"

"Having my undying gratitude and knowing you're the best sister in the world," he replied, his voice almost sincere.

"And?"

"And ten dollars," he muttered in dismay.

"Done," she called out, a smirk playing on her face.

Twenty minutes later, Jenny walked back home, the bag in her hand filled to the brim with snacks that Jesse had asked for. Potato chips, Doritos, dips, sour lollies, candy and soda.

Jenny wondered why exactly he had ordered enough to feed a small army but knowing Jesse, she wouldn't put it past him to eat everything within an hour or two.

Jenny made her arrival loud enough as she called out for him once she reached home.

"Jesse, where's my ten dollars?" she called out.

"We're in here!" he called back from the entertainment room.

Jenny sighed as she pulled her exhausted body together and headed towards where his voice came from.

"I swear," Jenny began as she entered the room, "you better have my money ready or I will -" her words died as she met a pair of blue eyes that glistened back at her.

The face that she saw as soon as she looked up wasn't her brother's. It was Daemon Matthews.

He was on the lazy boy across the room that was facing towards the door. He wore an amused expression that lingered on trying not to crack into a laugh.

Jenny's eyes widened exponentially as she closed her mouth, swallowing back the threats that she had been about to direct at her twin.

"Jenny," Jesse's voice broke her out if the shock that she had fallen into at seeing Daemon sitting there.

Jenny's gaze quickly turned to where her twin was sitting.

"Y-Yes," she replied. "I brought the stuff." Jenny tried to act normal but judging from the looked that Jesse had quickly directed towards her and then Daemon, Jenny knew it didn't work.

Jesse was suspicious and a suspicious Jesse wasn't one she wanted at that moment.

She quickly walked towards him and almost shoved the bag into his lap. Jenny nodded, almost to herself to gain back her senses once Jesse's attention was focused on taking stock of the snacks.

She quickly cast Daemon a look, only to redden when she realized he was already watching her.

Jenny bit her lower lip nervously as she wondered what he was doing there in her house with Jesse.

Once again, she was confused at their sudden friendliness towards one another.

She didn't take Daemon to be someone who would be friendly towards the guy who had taken the love of his life from him.

Jesse was more understandable because of how close Santana was to Daemon, he knew that Santana would've wanted them to be friends.

As if he knew she was wondering what he was doing there, Daemon smirked back at her before sending her a wink.

Jenny frowned at him before quickly looking towards Jesse to see if he noticed. Fortunately he was too busy digging through her purchases.

"Here you go, bro," Jesse said before promptly throwing the bag of sour lollies towards Daemon, who caught it easily with one hand.

Jenny sighed. She should've guessed that Jesse had added it to his list for her. But then again , she also couldn't foresee it having been for Daemon.

"Here's your money," Jesse said seconds later before heading it over.

Jenny quickly took it before she ran out of the room as if she was being chased by rabid dogs. Jenny only breathed out in relied once she was inside the safety of her room.

She collapsed onto her floor and wondered how she had ended up in this situation in the first place.

A month ago, she prided herself on not running away from her problems. But here she was sprinting away from Daemon Matthews faster than even Usain Bolt could.

A month ago, she was calm, cool and collected. But here she was frenetic, exhausted from lack of sleep and paranoid.

Jenny sat up, deciding to take a quick shower to freshen up and clear her head. Only after that would she decide on how to best handle Daemon Matthews.

She calmly walked to the bathroom, grateful that it was on the second floor and far away from the entertainment room.

After showering til the hot water turned cold and her skin almost tore at being washed thoroughly, Jenny wrapped her hair up in turban style with a towel. She pulled the other towel wrapped around her body tighter and shivered as a breeze hit her.

She opened the bathroom door to exit only to stop short as Daemon Matthews stood on the other side.

His eyes glimmered back at her, a devilish smile on his face.

Before Jenny could react to demand why he was there or to slam the door in his face, Daemon quickly moved.

Jenny took an instinctive step back as he stepped in front of her, pushing her backwards with his sudden close proximity.

Then before she could even get over the shock, Daemon pushed the door closed behind him and locked it before he turned back to face her as if he was a cat and she was a cornered mouse.

Jenny shrunk back, her senses heightened. "What the f-" her words hung in there as he took two steps forward and stopped right in front of her.

Then with his right hand he reached up and pulled the towel, undoing the turban that had been holding her hair up.

Her hair came free and fall messily against her head, covering her eyes and hiding Daemon away from view.

Slowly, almost vexingly, Daemon's hand traced her face before he tucks her hair behind her ear. Then he leaned in and spoke.

"You look hotter with your hair down."
