Shi Shen was sensitive to others’ emotions so he instantly saw through his calculating face and immediately raised his guard up.

Then in the next second, the other party suddenly said,’’If you were to be given the chance of bringing glory to the human race, will you do it?’’

Just by hearing this question, Shi Shen instantly knew that it was anything but good. However, even though he already had a guess in his mind he still tentatively asked,’’…What do you mean by that?’’

The Kin elaborated,‘’Let the Human race conquer the Chaos continent and start a new era.’’

Shi Shen internally raised his brows at this declaration.

Hah, these words actually came out from the very same person who proposed the treaty peace not long ago.

Nonetheless, Shi Shen promptly gave a shocked expression once he heard the King’s declaration, he then showed a perplexed face,’’…Is there really a way?’’

Hearing that he didn’t reject his suggestion right away, the King’s expression greatly eased as he generously responded,’’Of course, there is. In fact, this project is already halfway to success. So answer me, will you join us?’’

Right then, as if Shi Shen has just realized something he turned to ask his professor,’’You are already a part of that project?’’

Unsurprisingly, the answer he got was affirmative and the professor even added,’’Seeing how talented you are, I recommend you to His Majesty and don’t worry, all you have to do is to conduct some research and experiments, it is not life-threatening or anything. So just agree.’’

Shi Shen internally sneered. He was never worried about his safety but the project that they were talking about.

Ten out of ten, this experiment was illegal for them to not make it public so if he was not wrong, he will need to conduct experiments on living subjects.

At the thought of this, his heart suddenly gave a bad premonition once he was reminded of Artemis.

For all this time, Shi Shen has never found any abnormality except for the male lead’s strange illness. He has been transferring his spiritual energy into his body these past years but it could only temporarily alleviate the pain for a while, not a permanent cure

No matter how hard Artemis trained his body and mastered his control over mana it was of no use. Shi Shen didn’t even know how the male lead in the plot could survive until the end.

Honestly speaking, the reason he switched to being a researcher was so that he could find a solution since this was the first time he met with a hurdle in treating a patient.

However, everything here was different from his world so his medical knowledge didn’t count much except for using the same concept he needed to start from scratch.

Therefore, for all this year, Shi Shen could only create some supplements to nourish Artemis’s body to keep up with his mana.

So even though Shi Shen disdained this whatever project, he knew that he needed to agree with them.

First of all, he was 100% sure that this was the hidden plot. Secondly, he might be able to find the root of Artemis’s problem and cure him. Last but not least, he was not that stupid to think that he could walk away from here unscratched after rejecting their offer.

Just the fact that Artemis didn't appear right after he got summoned to the palace was solid proof that the King had something planned for him. Not to mention, Shi Shen felt several eyes on him ever since the moment he walked into this study.

So after going silent for a while, Shi Shen said in a firm tone,’’Please allow me to join this project!’’

The professor who heard this secretly heaved a sigh in relief. He was actually worried that this student of his would reject the King’s offer with that righteous personality of his but it turned out that he was not short-sighted and knew what’s good for him.

The King also revealed a satisfied face and his right hand secretly made a signal to stop the assassins from making any move. He too didn’t want to lose this kind of talented person so it was a relief that he agreed.

However, the King would never trust him with just these empty words so he smilingly added,’’Don’t worry, since you follow me you and your family’s future will be bright. I will even grant you a title if you were to succeed.’’

Shi Shen maintained his smile under his blatant threat. Seem like before his departure, things would not be peaceful.

As the King wanted to say something more, a commotion suddenly occurred from the outside following by the door suddenly burst open.

Standing at the entrance was the expressionless Artemis. Once he saw the person he was looking for was okay his eyes immediately moved to settle on the King.

Even though Artemis was the Crown Prince it was still not right for him to interrupt the King’s meeting without his permission but the latter was not angered and just mildly said with a frown,’’Artemis Fowl, seem like you have become more and more unruly. You don’t even respect me, the King?’’

Without a change in his expression, Artemis didn’t even bow his head toward the King, he calmly met with the latter gaze then enunciated his every word,’’You seem to forget my words back then?’’

Hearing this, the King’s face slightly went stiff as he secretly clenched his fists but Artemis did not care for his answer he simply continued,’’You know what I am capable of doing so don’t challenge my bottom line.’’

Done saying this, he turned to look at Shi Shen,’’Come here, we are going back.’’

Shi Shen briefly hesitated before getting up bidding farewell to the King and finally followed Artemis to walk out of the room. The latter didn’t say anything along the way to the carriage, only when they were alone did he coldly said,’’Stay away from him.’’

‘’Why?’’Questioned Shi Shen.

At his question, Artemis seemed to recall something unsightly for his expression to suddenly turn grave. After a long pause, he solemnly said,’’Just know that he is even worse than a demon.’’

If so, why didn’t the man do anything to him? Like knowing what Shi Shen wanted to say, Artemis further continued,’’Killing him would arise internal conflicts. I don’t want to admit it but to our people, he was a benevolent King for sure. Not to mention, during these past 5 years my people had reported some incidents which possibly linked to the Demons so we cannot afford to have a fallout.’’

Shi Shen knew the plot so he had already known that some high-level Demons were already hiding among the humans waiting for the opportunity to capture the male lead.

Although he knew that the other person said with good intentions, Shi Shen would not change his decision.

Staring straight at the person opposite of him, Shi Shen calmly stated,’’You do realize that if you were to be unable to find a cure, you would die soon?’’

Having the truth pointed out, Artemis slightly flinched. Of course, he knew his condition better than anyone. To others, his condition has improved but he knew that it was only a short-term.

He could die anytime soon.

However, Artemis lifted his eyes to look at him then indifferently said,’’This is none of your business so stay out of it.’’
