Chapter 35: Rivalry

"See you soon Uraraka!" I wave goodbye to her as I get off of my stop and she waves goodbye as well with a happy smile on her face.

Few days later at the U.A Pool...

As we discussed with all the girls, we were going to go use the pool in high school to relax since we are unable to take a long holiday due to the villain attack. Though I had no problems with this since I didn't have any plans anyway.

As I arrive at the U.A premises, I happily skip towards the changing rooms to switch into my swimming suits. Turning the corner I bump into someone, and that someone was Yaoyorozu. I happily smile when I see her and she reciprocated as well. We greet one another and decide to walk together. Her face seems slightly flushed as I close the proximity between us and walk shoulder to shoulder along with her to the changing room.

I link my arm with hers while grinning at Yaoyorozu, "I'm so happy to be hanging out with everyone! I missed you guys even though it's only been a few days."

"M... Me too! I missed you (Y/n)," Yaoyorozu passionately acclaims, "I brought a beach ball so we could play with it while we hang out at the pool."

I clap my hands together and cheerfully comment, "that'll be fun!"

Yaoyorozu and I continue to chat happily with one another, talking about what we have done so far over the last few days before the training camp. I said that I was training my quirk on multiple materials for a long period of time while doing a tiring exercise like a plank or sit-ups.

"Our quirks are quite similar in terms of the basics don't you think?" Yaoyorozu places her index finger onto her chin, "We both need to know the composition for our quirk to work; for you, you need it for you manipulation aspect of your quirk."

My mouth widens just slightly and I give her a bright broad smile, "Maybe that means we would be a really good team! We should definitely try some moves out together!"

"I agree!" Yaoyorozu nods in agreement and we continue to walk.

We arrive in the changing room, noticing that all the girls are here already. All of us greet one another and we change into the schools swimming suit.

After changing...

We all stretch together near the pool and it seems that all the boys of 1-A are here as well. The girls and I play with one another with the ball that Yaoyorozu brought and we also decide to sunbathe as well.

After playing for a while, I bounce up and raise my right arm, "I want to join the boys physical training as well!"

I waddle over towards Iida and tap him on his arm and he responds with, "Ah (Y/n)! Would you like to join us right now? We will be doing 50 laps (2.5km) back and forth. Let's do this!"

He hands me goggles and I put them on. After, I dive elegantly into the water and swim along with the boys. As I continue doing freestyle, I see Bakugou slightly ahead of me in the other lane and my competitive side grows inside of me. I then go faster so that I can show that I'm faster.

Overtaking him, Bakugou notices and speeds up swimming as well. I inwardly smirk and do a flip turn to keep up my speed. We continue to swim extremely fast for another 20 laps and I feel myself getting tired once more. I slow down just slightly to keep up a pace I can maintain for another 30 laps.

"Let's take a 15 minute break!" Iida announces while opening a box full of a variety of drinks, "I brought these with me."

Just as we finish our 50 laps, with me finishing before Bakugou, I raise myself out of the water, take off my goggles and feel my extremely hot cheeks. My arms feel so weak that I'm unable to raise myself out of the water so I just stand there and try to catch my breath. I suddenly feel someone raise me from underneath them and I panic while waving my arms around. I look down and see Bakugou's head in between my legs as he sneakily carries me on his shoulders.

Out of breath and exasperated, I shout at Bakugou and pouts with puffed-out cheeks, "Bakugou! Put me down! I'll kill you!"

"Hey, you were trying to beat me when we were swimming!" Bakugou huffs at me.

I grab onto his hair as I feel like I'll fall, "It's not my fault that I can last longer than you!"

"Last longer than me, huh?" Bakugou teasingly says while lowly whispering it to me; I can almost see his smirk on his stupid face.

"I...I didn't mean it like that" My face explodes into an extremely red flush at his dirty joke that he made at me, "Stupid porcupine let me down!"

He then lowers himself back into the water so that I can gently get off of him. As I get off, I feel the entire class stare at us as we make a scene together. I cover my face in embarrassment and try to avoid the gazes of everyone. Bakugou hears Midoriya make a comment and immediately bursts his way out of the water to stomp towards him. He begins to bicker with him and I leave the pool finally.

"Everyone! Why don't we see who can swim 50 meters the fastest?" Iida suggests with the girls helping out.

Race time...

"On your marks... Get set... Go!"

On the first set of swimming races, Bakugou gets first by immediately blasting his way over the entire pool. While on the next one, Todoroki simply freezes his way over with Midoriya and Iida using their quirks to speed himself up. In my own set of races, I use my quirk to control the water to carry me across extremely quickly. I jump off the water and flick my hair dramatically, knowing that I got first place.

We all gather and Iida announces, "The winner of each race Bakugou, Todoroki, Midoriya and (Y/n) will race for first place!"

Bakugou yells at the other two, telling them to not hold back. They agree to it and Bakugou stares at me, already knowing that I'll use everything in my power to win.

We each stand on a diving board as Iida shouts, "The 50-meter freestyle final race will begin now!"

I hear everyone's cheers and my name comes up a few times. I determinedly furrow my brows and wait for him to say to start. I begin to lift the water from my hand as Iida slowly readies us.

"On your marks... Get set... Go!"

I notice my quirk fall out of my control and stop myself from diving off of the board. I turn around and notice Aizawa standing there with his quirk activated. He tells us to go home and we all comply.

As Todoroki, Bakugou and Midoriya stare ominously at one another in the water, I could tell that there was a rivalry brewing between them. I look away, knowing that I played some part in this growing rivalry. Though I don't know if this was good or bad. Maybe it would allow them to grow, or maybe it would create unnecessary conflict for the future to come.

In an unknown area...

(3rd POV)

Sitting in the darkness of his room, Dabi continues to look at the photo of (Y/n) that he received from the league of villains. He strokes his fingers over her picture a few times before sadly remembering memories of a certain passed away hero.

"Mutare..." Dabi whispers in a saddened tone, "We'll meet once again (Y/n) and I'll tell you everything... and what you decide to do with that information is up to you."

Though the training camp was highly anticipated by everyone, it would soon become a terrifying event especially for the girl named (Y/n) whose determination to become a hero wavers.
