Blood splattered the ground next to me, a few flecks managing to get onto one of the sleeves of my jumpsuit. Eyes wide and senses practically overridden, I craned my head up to try and see what was going on. A blur of one of the NTF shot past me at alarming speeds. It had caused me to jump.
Scrambling upwards, there was a figure just down the hall. I raced towards 049 as soon as I could, the said doctor having been honed in on one of the corpses. Five men left.
"Oh, cut that out. Your struggles are useless."
What sounded like pained screams sounded.
A sight of a bright red card that read was noticeable in the corner of my eye on the ground next to the body he was after, and I risked swiping it off of the floor before continuing to yank 049 away. A sharp breath was sucked into my as I paused where I was when I had whipped around and immediately come to sight with the end of a gun aimed right at my face. The doctor was still writhing my hold.
What seemed like a dark, red tendril shot from one of the corridor's walls and slammed into the NTF about to strike me down. It wasn't long before he was coiled up and squeezed immensely around the middle.
The sight of orange caught my attention as it ran past me. The person turned to me. However, it hadn't exactly seemed to be a person. Black secreted all over the upper part of the body, and attached to its face was a comedy mask.
"Take the birdy somewhere else, now. I'll finish you later~" It then turned back to all of the chaos, a dark chuckle emanating from it as it ducked under the tendril it had killed the man who was going to shoot me. The lights dimmed immensely above us, a faint purple glow coming from the mask. From where, I wasn't able to tell, as its back was turned from us.
I began to gradually force 049 with me away and towards the direction the mask had come from, eyes still trained on all that was happening. The doctor was getting more and more difficult to keep in my grasp.
Abruptly, one of the guards had ceased fire. Another tendril shot out from the ground and knocked the one farther back off of his feet. It wasn't long before his head had been squeeze off, blood pooling over the ground. The one who had ceased fire dropped his gun and was beginning to hold his head. I was able to hear what sounded like faint, demonic whispering. Of what, I hadn't known.
Not wanting to watch any longer, and not be added into the mix of that, I looked away and put the rest of my focus on dragging the plague doctor out of there. I continued on with my struggles despite how exhausted I was feeling.
I turned into more hallways as fast as I was able to. By the time I had made it around the second corner, 049 was relaxing in my aching, sweaty hands. Releasing him, I was panting myself and glanced over to him. Blood from all of that chaos was all over both him and I, and the scent of it was evident.
Lifting up one of my hands, I switched my gaze down to the red key-card and read the label: 'Level 5.' Damn... I should've taken one of those rifles too. But like hell if I'm going back and getting one with that thing there.
"That was 035."
My half-drooping eyes returned to him. "What?" It was raspy.
"Do you recall when we were residing in where it was held with 173?"
It all hit me, and I winced further as I also remembered what it had said. "I'll finish you later." Now we would've also had to be on the run from a scary mask. From what little I was able to see, and how it was seemingly toying with those seven NTF, I hadn't wanted it to succeed in finding us again.
