Ch. 22 - Misunderstandings and Meltdowns

"But...but Maggie said you guys wanted anotha 'ittle and dat we was gon be sissies?" I asked.

Maggie's Mommy spoke up, "Maggie, were you listening to me and momma's private conversation?"

Maggie hung her head before telling her yes and that she was sorry.

Maggie's Mommy came over a little closer to me. "Maggie was right when she said we wanted another little, but that is far into the future and it's not you. Although we love having you, we would never ever try and separate you from your mommies."

"You won't?" I asked quietly.

Maggie's momma spoke up again, "of course not sweetie. We wanted to talk to Maggie before we decided to get another little, but you were never going to be the little we were talking about. I'm glad Maggie is okay with having a sibling, but  it's not going to be you."

"Are you okay now Lucy?" Maggie's mommy asked me.

I shook my head to her, "I wan go home."

She sighed, "I'll go call your mommies okay?"

I just nodded and stayed huddled into the corner.

Melissa POV

Amelia and I were out on a day date since Lucy was at Maggie's house. We had just finished our lunch when I got a call from Maggie's Mommy Heather.

"Hello?" I asked as I answered the phone.

"Hi Melissa, this is Heather. We have a bit of a situation at the house and we were wondering if you and Amelia could come by?"

"What's going on?" I demanded making Ame send me a concerned look.

"Everyone is okay now. Lucy just had a bit of a meltdown due to a misunderstanding from Maggie. It really will be easier if we can just explain it to you when you get here."

"We'll be there in 10 minutes or less." I tell her before hanging up.

I sigh as Ame and I made our way to the car. I got in and started driving away.

"Well? Are you going to explain what the hell is going on?" Ame asked.

Shit, I totally forgot she only heard my side of the conversation.

"Apparently Lucy had a breakdown while at Maggie's and they can't get her to calm down."

"Our poor baby," Ame answered.

We made it to Maggie's house in less than 10 minutes and ran inside and followed the sound of soft cries until we came upon Maggie's bedroom.

Maggie was sitting in the lap of Kathryn, her momma, and she had some faint tear marks on her face.

We look to the corner to see Lucy huddled with her knees to her chest and hear soft sobs coming from her.

Amelia and I both rushed over to her.

"Lucy baby, it's Mommy. Momma is here with me too."

"Can you look up for us baby?" Ame asked her.

Lucy finally looked up and the sight I saw made my heart hurt.

"Oh my poor baby," I said as I pulled her onto my lap with Ame rubbing her back.

"Mommmmyy!" She cried out as she clung onto my neck.

"Shh babygirl, it's okay, your mommies are here." Her sobs softened a bit and I kissed her temple.

"How about you go with Momma and I'll go talk to Miss Heather and Miss Kathryn?"

I handed her off to Ame who took her outside while Kathryn, Heather and I left Maggie in her room to discuss what had happened.

Amelia POV

"Come here baby," I say to Lucy as Mel passes her off to me and I put her on my hip.

She pushed her head into my chest before crying, "Momma, I wan go 'ome."

We made it outside and I continue to gently rock her back and forth. "Shh baby, I know. We'll go shortly. Mommy just needs to talk to Maggie's mommies okay hun?"

She just nods her head while tugging on my shirt.

"Do you want to nurse hun?"

"P'ease momma?" I nod and then carry her to the car and get ourselves situated in the backseat.

She latches on and gently suckles my breast. Her body fully relaxed against mine and I brushed my fingers through her hair.

Melissa walks out to the car with Lucy's stuff in her hand. I decide just to let Lucy continue nursing while Mel drives home.

Eventually Lucy stopped nursing but cuddled her face in between my boobs.

"Baby girl? Can you tell mommy and I what happened?"

She whined a bit but eventually started to tell us.

"Maggie said dat her mommies wan'ed anotha 'ittle and den she told me we was gon be sissies. I asked what 'bout my mommies and she said it not matter cuz then her mommies would be my mommies."

She started crying so I squeezed her and gave her a kiss on her temple.

"I not like that. I no want Maggie's mommies to be my mommies. I only wan you guys be my mommies. I no wan a sissy or a brotha. You and mommy not make me have a sissy or a brotha wight?

I'm grateful Mel and I have talked about this recently and we both decided we only wanted Lucy. We don't want another little, she's our sweet and only baby.

"No sweetheart. You are the only baby for me and Mommy. We don't ever want a baby other than you, okay? We love you so much and would never do anything you aren't comfortable with."

"Otay momma. I 'ove 'ou and I 'ove mommy." She said with a yawn.

Mel spoke up, "we love you too sweet girl. We will be home in a little while, why don't you go ahead and take a nap on momma?"

Lucy just nods and releases another big yawn before pushing her head back into my chest.

Once we pull up into our driveway, Mel takes our sleeping baby while I cover myself up.

I follow them upstairs and help Mel get Lucy into a diaper and into our bed. We cuddle up with her in between us before we both kiss her on the head and tell her we love her. "You are our only baby," I tell her. "Forever and always," Mel finishes.
