Chapter 8: The Mother

Start from the beginning

"...yeah. I guess we are pretty gross. Sometimes I wonder why the human race exists too..."

Jasper's POV

I looked down at the human after her quiet comment. Her face was dull and expressionless except for her furrowed eyebrows. Did I say something wrong? I blushed slightly at my thought, frowning. I shouldn't even care! I sighed, following behind her as she began walking again. I looked to my feet, glancing up occasionally to ensure I was still behind her. She was walking pretty slow, her head facing forward and never turning to look behind her. It was...disappointing that she didn't check to see if I was still following her as she had done before. I huffed, picking up speed so that I was walking beside her. "Hey! What's your problem? Is it something I said?" She looked up at me, her (e/c) eyes widening at my question. She gave me half a smile, looking down at her feet for a moment and then back up at me.

"Well, yeah. The comment about my existence and whatnot." I gave her a confused expression.

"You didn't think I was talking about you, did you?" She looked at me again, her mouth falling slightly open.

"W-Well yeah, I did. I am human, after all." I rolled my eyes, dodging yet another human whose nose was practically pressed against the small device they called a phone.

"Yes, you are human, but...you're different. You aren't like those slobs," I said, blushing slightly. I didn't make eye contact with her when I said it, but I knew she was staring at me. I looked at her out the corner of my eye, seeing a huge smile on her face. "Wha-What?! What are you grinning about, runt?!" She laughed, nudging her shoulder into my arm, but staying closer to my side.

"You like me," she singsonged, causing my face to heat up more. "We're totally friends now, CJ." I growled, grabbing the back of her neck with my free hand.

"We are not friends, human. Do not get it twisted." She hummed, sashaying with a smile, seemingly not fazed by my aggressive behavior.

"Whatever you say...friend." I rolled my eyes, releasing her. Having a friend wouldn't be so bad...especially if it's her.

(Y/n)'s POV

You and Jasper now walked shoulder to shoulder. Or...shoulder to a little above the elbow. Your body was warm from her words, and you were happy that she was developing so quickly. You thought it would have taken months, or maybe even years, for her to warm up to you! But it had only taken about a week, and you were excited. You knew she was a quick learner. She was such a smart person...gem? You were sure that you'd have her used to the Earth in no time. Maybe you two could even develop a relationship... Your face heated up in embarrassment. I can't believe I just thought like that...I've only just met her! You walked up to the elevators at the end of the mall area, pressing the up button with your elbow. The doors slid open, revealing no one to be inside. "Great," you said, cheerfully, looking to make sure Jasper was following behind you. She stepped into the elevator after you. "Press that button, CJ," you said, lifting your arm to point at the button labeled '39'. Jasper did as told and then returned to her place beside you after the doors closed. The elevator wasn't tiny, but it seemed as though it was since Jasper was in there with you. Only one or two other people would probably be able to fit in. "We're gonna be standing in here a while, so go ahead and get comfortable." Jasper nodded, putting your suitcase down between her feet, leaning against the elevator wall, and crossing her arms. You shuffled one of the shopping bags to your left hand, using your now free right hand to dig in your purse for your phone. 8:24 PM. You unlocked your phone, clicked on the messages app, and scrolled to find your mother's contact name. The clicking of your keyboard filled the quiet elevator, the whooshing sound of the message being sent, followed by the click of the device being turned off sounding soon after. The message you sent said, 'Surprise' with the wink emoticon.
