Chapter 10: The Breakfast

Start from the beginning

"Jasper! Oh, you're awake! Come join me, won't you?" I gulped, slowly dragging my feet toward the living room again. My hands clenched and unclenched at my sides as I chewed my bottom lip. It felt like I was walking forever until my feet finally touched the white rug under the couch. "Oh, sweetheart, don't be nervous. Come! Sit right here." She pointed at the ground in front of her, and I quickly took a seat between her ankles. She turned the TV off, setting the remote beside her. "I noticed that your hair was different from yesterday...it's all out now! Did you take it down?" I nodded, placing my hands in my lap. "Did (y/n) do your hair for the trip?" she asked, planting her hands on my head as she combed through my tangled hair. I nodded again, holding my breath. "Well, she did a good job...the style looked beautiful on you."

"Thank you..." She let out a hearty chuckle, squeezing my shoulders.

"Jasper, do tell me...why do you seem so nervous around me? I hope you don't think I'll harm you, sweet." I shook my head, turning to look at her. My amber eyes met with her deep brown ones, and I blushed again. Her eyes displayed so much warmth and care...I couldn't help but stare for a moment.

"N-No ma'am...not at all," I said, using the term "ma'am" as a sign of respect. I heard it on TV once. "It's just—you remind me of someone who was once close to me." She blinked at me, pursing her perfectly pink lips.

"Once? Did the two of you fall out?" I gave a small smile, looking down at my hands.

"No, ma'am. She was sh—" I cut myself off, clearing my throat. "She was killed." She brought a hand to her mouth, her brows furrowing in concern.

"Oh, baby, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have asked," she said, grabbing ahold of my hands. My face burned again as my eyes darted away from hers, glancing around the room.

"I-It's fine...it happened a long time ago." She nodded slowly, her lips upturning into a small smile.

"Tell me about her. What was she like?" My blush deepened as I thought about my diamond.

"W-Well...she was kind—caring, very enthusiastic about any and everything she did. She was beautiful and amazing." She squeezed my hands, smiling brightly.

"I can tell that you loved and admired her a lot." I nodded, looking up at her again.

"Yes, ma'am." She giggled, waving a hand at me.

"Oh, stop with the formalities, Jasper! Just call me Daia."

       "Daia?"

"Yes, it's my stage name. I'm a singer slash actor. I do a lot of different gigs on stage...mostly broadway." My mouth gaped as I listened to her talk about her talents. "But! I do want to spend time with you girls today. So...I'll give you two options. We can sit and watch TV while I redo your hair, or you can help me make breakfast and then go and wake (y/n) up for me."

"Does...breakfast involve cookies?" She laughed, her eyes closing momentarily.

"No, silly!" I pouted, huffing slightly. "But it does involve a lot of other things. (Y/n) not cooking for you at home?"

"No...not really. I don't really have to eat."

"Of course you do, babe. I can not believe she isn't cooking for you...," Daia mumbled, shaking her head slightly. "A big girl like you needs her nutrients," she added, squeezing my bicep. I blushed, rubbing my arm where she had just touched it. "Well, anyway, let's get started on breakfast. Then I'll send you to go and wake sleepyhead up around eight." I gave a single nod, standing to my feet. I stuck my hand out, helping Daia to her feet as well. She gave me a thankful smile, walking towards the kitchen as I followed her.
