The Hounds of Baskerville: Chapter 12

Start from the beginning

"I better call him, before we break him." Sherlock picked up his phone, handing the recorder over to you to continue with the growling sounds.

"It's here... It's in here with me." John's breathing was rapid and his voice was extremely terrified as he spoke. It was hard to understand him coming through Sherlock's phone.

"Where are you?" Sherlock asked seriously, raising his eyebrows at you with a smile. You shook your head at him. Experimenting on John was proving rather eventful and kind of fun... but you couldn't really feel bad for the man. He was practically asking for it befriending you and Sherlock.

"Get me out, Sherlock. You've got to get me out. The big lab, the first lab we saw." John's voice was hushed, but the words were gushing out of his mouth as if he only had seconds to say what he needed to. You pressed the recorder, letting another growl sound emerge. "Oh-" John let out a panicked gasp, not speaking any longer.

"John... John?"

"Now, Sherlock, please." John's voice cracked heavily as he whispered frantically into his phone.

"Alright, I'll find you. Keep talking." Sherlock told him, his acting brilliant if you must say so yourself. He sounded truly panicked and worried about John's safety.

"I can't, it'll hear me."

"Keep. Talking. What are you seeing?" Sherlock asked, trying to get John to tell him what the hound looked like, to prove your theory, of course. John remained silent. "John?"

"Yes, I'm here."

"What can you see?" Sherlock pulled the phone from his face as you covered your mouth before you laughed too loud and John heard it through the speaker. 'Stop it'. Sherlock mouthed at you, a smile threatening to appear on his face. He finally turned away from you so you wouldn't make him laugh.

"I don't know. I don't know, but I can hear it now." You pressed the recorder again so it let out another low growl. "Did you hear that?" John asked in a small voice.

"Stay calm, stay calm. Can you see it? Can you see it?" You continued to press the recorder, letting out multiple growls as you turned to Sherlock with a smile. Your plan was going perfectly, and it appeared Sherlock's sugar theory was right.

"No, I can't." John paused quickly. "I can see it." He told Sherlock. You looked to him, that was your cue to go and 'rescue' John. You both stood, hurrying towards the lab. "I can see it." John said again. "It's here." You quickly made it to the lab, turning on the lights as Sherlock ran to John's aid.

"Are you okay? Are you alright?" Sherlock asked, opening the cage John was hiding in. John quickly immersed, full of panic. He began pacing back and forth in front of you and Sherlock. You could see John's hands were shaking.

"Jesus Christ! It was the hound! Sherlock, it was here, I swear it, Sherlock, it must, it must... Did- did you see it? You must have!" John continued to pace, looking at you and Sherlock with wide eyes as he looked around the lab in panic.

"It's all right, it's okay now." Sherlock told him, while you stood back, watching John. Sherlock held his hands out towards him, in attempts to get John to calm down. You were sure that wasn't going to work in his favor.

"No, it's not! It's not okay!" John yelled. "I saw it, I was wrong!" He gestured his arms around at Sherlock and you grinned, John just admitted he'd been wrong.

"Hm, well, let's not jump to conclusions." Sherlock bobbed his head back and forth in thought.

"What?" John looked up at him intensely. He was catching on that the two of you knew something he didn't.

"What did you see?" You asked, standing by Sherlock. John looked at you, confusion written on his face.

"I told you, I saw the hound." He breathed, still not caught up on air.

"Huge, red eyes?" Sherlock asked.

"Yes."

"Glowing?" You added, crossing your arms.

"Yeah." John nodded.

"No." Sherlock shook his head with a grin.

"What?" John asked, looking around the room.

"I made up the bit about glowing." Sherlock informed John, who was still very confused. You hadn't expected him to understand.

"You saw what you expected to see because Sherlock told you. You have been drugged, John." You told him, if anything he just looked even more confused.

"We've all been drugged." Sherlock added.

"Except me." You grinned. He furrowed his eyebrows, not understanding. You'd have to lay this all out for him before he finally got what you were both trying to say.

"Drugged?" He asked, finally calming down a little.

"Can you walk?" Sherlock asked, studying John who was still gasping for breath. You'd scared him pretty good. You didn't feel bad, it had proven your theory correct.

"Of course I can walk." He told Sherlock, like it was a dumb question.

"Come on, then. It's time to lay this ghost." Sherlock told him as you headed towards the doors. John took another quick scan of the lab before he followed behind you both.
