Chapter 12

Steven explained to me how she was a gem who was trapped in some magic mirror which he freed her from, and how she warned him beforehand of Peridot's arrival. Steven then pushed past all The Gems to stand in front. "I wanna see", he stated, bending his knees slightly to peek into the telescope, "Woah...".

I shoved him over into the sand, a little harsher than I meant to, but I wasn't bothered to apologise. And lucky for me, Steven was afraid of me and wouldn't argue back. "My turn!", I chuckled, peering into the telescope lenses to see the green hand pointing its mechanical finger towards us. My smile faltered at the sight as I gradually back away from the telescope. It freaked me out. "Ready the light cannons!", Garnet ordered the other Gems. Pearl flipped a red switch she had in her hands as three radiant, magenta cannons joined together by a crystalline structure appeared from under the deck of the Beach house. I took a few steps back, admiring the enchanting weapons. Amethyst began to push another cannon into position from the porch before giving Garnet a thumbs up.

"Steven, light them up".

Steven took a walkie-talkie from Greg's grip, leaning into it to speak, "If every porkchop were perfect, we wouldn't have hot dogs". As soon as he spoke The Light Cannons opened up like a blossoming flower. I knitted my brows in complexity, goggling Steven with a dimwitted expression plastered on my face. "Hold on a second...wHat???".

Steven shrugged obliviously in return, "It's a phrase--".

"What does that mean?!".

Once the Cannons were fully activated, four beams of light fired and twired towards the hand ship. I noticed something weird about it though. There was a white silhouette in the middle, but it looked oddly familiar. It was a woman. I've...seen that woman before, but where? Was it the same woman from my dreams? The one who gave me that gemstone?

The ship unclenched its hands, opening up into a palm and blocked the attacks with ease. It then continued descending as if nothing happened.

I scoffed, "Well that didn't work".

"What now?", Greg asked in a state of frenzy. "We'll have to take them head-on", Garnet replied, picking up the telescope, "The whole town might be in danger". Steven took out his phone from his jeans pocket. "I better make a call. Time for some... political favours", he said, as I looked over his shoulder to see that he was dialling the Mayor. I began to take out my phone too, "I better make sure my mum's ok at work", I spoke, tapping her nicon on my phone. I bring the phone up to my ear, listening to the deafening sound of the ringing before it goes straight to voice mail. I tried again, I tried several times but to no avail. "Argh! She's not answering!", I fussed, with a hint of panic in the tone of my voice. Greg rested his hand on my shoulder, making me glance up at him. "Don't worry, (Y/N)", he reassures me, "I'm sure she's fine".

I hear the sound to a siren chanting and the noise of an engine towards the boardwalk. A whole crowd of citizens gathered around the Mayor's van. He began to say his quite inadequately planned speech about how the town should evacuate as Greg pulled up onto the beach with his vehicle. He gets out and receives help from the Gems to pack and load the luggage into the back of his van. "Hey! That's a great idea, Dad. You should leave with the rest of the--", Steven's voice halted when he noticed a cheeseburger backpack at the foot of Greg and Pearl who looked extremely ashamed. Wait, isn't that Steven's backpack? "Is that my luggage?".

"Uuhh...", they both said simultaneously as the glanced at each other in guilt. "Who wants to tell him?", Greg asked, rigidly, before him and Pearl turn to face Amethyst. She scoffed, turning her back at us and crossing her arms defensively, "Hey, I'm not good with this stuff!".
