"B-But nonno (grandpa) Ezio..." she began hesitantly, but Ezio quickly interrupted her once more.
"Go to your room, Mariana." He said firmly, but upon seeing her frightened look as she cowered behind me, his gaze softened. "Go, tesoro (sweetheart). We will be right there." He said more gently this time, and with that, Mariana ran back inside.
"What brings you here, sister?" I decided to ask then as I moved to stand by Ezio's side, leaving a soft hand on his shoulder as he let out a few coughs. She was troubled, I could tell, and from the way she dressed and looked, I could tell she had come a long way to be here. She was still hesitant, so I decided to step forth, placing a reassuring hand on her shoulder. "Come, let us go inside." I smiled softly.
"(y/n)..." Ezio called out, his tone bearing a tinge of concern that made me grimace. I looked back at him.
"It's okay, Ezio." I gave him a soft smile before I looked back at the young woman. "Come. We will be more at ease inside." She didn't say anything, but at least she didn't protest as I wrapped an arm around her and led her inside, to the living room. This was going to be a looong day...
Shao Jun. That was her name. A young concubine turned Assassin trying to rebuild her beloved Brotherhood. Travelled thousands of miles to stand before us, to ask for our aid. Her request was simple enough, but the solution was not. She wanted advice so she could rebuild her Brotherhood, like we did all those years ago in Roma. Ohh, but that was no easy task. It took patience, time, and dedication. The only solution for her plan to work was for her to believe whole-heartedly in her capabilities as a leader. She needed to realize that being Mentore was no easy task, and that she needed to be strong enough if she wanted to even dream of helping out.
"I...do not know what to say." Ezio admitted as he watched her, the fluctuating glow of the fireplace illuminating her soft features. "I am sorry. But I do not want any part of this."
"I want to...understand." She pleaded. "How to lead, how to...rebuild my Order."
"No." Ezio shook his head. "For me, that is over."
"Ezio!" I scolded. "She has come a long way to ask for our help."
"Yet we had agreed ten years ago that we would put this life behind us." He shot back, before silence filled the room. He sighed as he looked back at Shao Jun. "Look. I cannot help you. I think you should go." At that, I looked out the window. It was completely dark outside, way too late for her to begin such arduous voyage. I shook my head in frustration.
"Ezio." I glared at him for a few moments, before my gaze finally settled on Shao Jun. The poor girl looked desperate. "Forgive my husband's attitude towards you. He is being rude, and I'm sure he realizes the error of his ways." I glared back at Ezio as I said those words, making doubly sure he knew what awaited him once we got to bed. Ohh, I was going to make doubly sure he'd get a good piece of my mind. I looked back at her, proceeding to give her a soft smile. "Now come, my dear. I'm sure you must be tired. The guest room is free. You should go get some rest."
