"Y/n, you okay?" John looked at you as you walked towards the flat's doors.
"I need to take care of something." You told him as you walked through the door and headed down the stairs, opening the door just as Lestrade was about to enter. He looked at you, surprised as you gave him a dark look.
"No." You told him with a blank look as you blocked him from further entering the flat. He looked at your stance, his eyebrows raised. Lestrade was your friend, but Sherlock was your partner. When a threat came to him, you were standing up for him in any way you could. You weren't going with Lestrade willingly. You just weren't. You knew Sherlock would agree.
"You don't even know-"
"No, Lestrade. I know why you're here. You want to take Sherlock to the station for questioning. The answer is no. Sherlock will tell you the same exact thing. So no, you cannot come in." You told him, your eyes scanning him rapidly.
"Listen..." Lestrade took a step closer as he looked down towards the pavement, a frown set on his face. You could tell he didn't like it, but he was obviously under orders to be here, and he even seemed to be questioning why he was here himself. Still, you felt as if he wasn't fighting hard enough for you and Sherlock. He was supposed to be your friend.
"The girl's scream? I know Sally has something to do with this, she's always hated me and Sherlock. But you've got to listen to me, this is what Moriarty wants. He wants to ruin me and Sherlock, he managed to make that girl terrified of us, and now he's planted a seed of doubt in you too. You'll just be doing what he wants if you take Sherlock in. If you take him, you're taking me as well.." You shook your head at him. You desperately hoped he would hear you out on this. He took a deep breath, looking up at you.
"Y/n, we're only bringing Sherlock in." He told you. You stared at him, your lips parted as he looked at you.
"Excuse me?" You asked, looking him over. "Did you not just hear me say if you take Sherlock then-"
"We have no reason to suspect you, Sherlock on the other hand..." Lestrade swept a hand down his face in stress as he shook his head back and forth.
You started to come with reasons now why Lestrade needed to take you in. You weren't letting Sherlock go alone. "But you saw the girl, she was terrified-"
"Of Sherlock, who was standing in front of you. Don't give them any reason to suspect you too, you guys don't need this." Lestrade told you with a soft look. You scanned him with angry eyes.
"No, you're right. We don't need this, but Moriarty does. Don't you see that this is all a game to him? Me and Sherlock have nothing to do with this and now you're doubting us too. I thought you were our friend!" You raised your voice at him, your throat tightening in response. You felt your eyes tear up as you looked angrily at Lestrade. His face formed into one that was hurt and he wanted to say something but you shook your head. "No, don't. Just leave. Give my regards to Sally." You closed the door harshly, sighing as you leaned back against the door with closed eyes. That settled it, Moriarty was blowing your entire plan up in your face. You had to figure a way out of it. You slowly walked back up to the flat, seeing Sherlock sat at his computer with a tiny camera in between his fingers. He looked up at you expectantly.
"They'll be deciding." You told Sherlock, sighing as you sat down on the couch. You leaned forward with your face in your hands, stress overcoming you. "Sherlock, I tried." You shook your head, trying to desperately think of a way out of this mess. You couldn't handle this anymore. It was going to destroy you if it continued on.
"Tried?" Sherlock looked at you with squinted eyes. You shook your head, not wanting to tell him about the articles, it would make everything worse at this point.
