"Um, no, I'm sorry. It's just- my friend I think he may have wandered off into the kitchen. He has curly hair, and a very uneven mustache. I need to find him, he's a diabetic and his sugar might be low. When that happens he gets all weird and sometimes streaks." You told the man very worriedly, as you quickly looked around the place desperately. He looked at you oddly for a moment before he rushed to the kitchens, obviously he was going to be quick considering the establishment couldn't afford having someone come streaking through. You chuckled to yourself humorously, waiting for the man as you continued searching around the restaurant. Before the man could return, you saw what you'd been afraid of.
"Oh no." You breathed as you saw Sherlock standing over John with a bottle of wine in his hands. John's date looked amused, as she grinned awkwardly at John across the table. John looked back at her, seeming to be trying to get rid of Sherlock, but of course he didn't yet know it was Sherlock who was standing over him. You hurried towards Sherlock, grabbing his arm to yank him away when John looked up at the both of you. His whole face went blank as he looked up at the two of you. You smiled awkwardly, giving him the faintest wave. He was clearly not amused.
"Interesting thing, a tuxedo. Lends distinction to friends, and anonymity to waiters." Sherlock spoke quietly, looking down at John. You dropped Sherlock's arm and took a step back as John shakily pushed himself to his feet, shaking the table in the process.
"John? John, what- what is it?" His date looked up at him in worry and you cursed at yourself for not trying harder to convince Sherlock this would be a bad idea. You told him, but he never listened!
"Well, the short version: not dead." Sherlock crossed his hands over one another as he looked at John with a small smile. John did not return the smile, but had his fists clenched as he glared daggers at you and Sherlock, his jaw tight in anger. Sherlock gazed at John's face, his expression changing as he saw John's reaction was not the one he was expecting.
"I'm sorry, John. This was his idea, I tried to stop him. I knew it would be a bad idea springing it on you like this, and-" You started to explain, but Sherlock took it into his own hands as usual.
"It could've given you a heart attack, probably still will. But in my defense, it was very funny." Sherlock laughed, turning back to look at you for a moment. You shook your head at him, warning him it wasn't the best of his ideas. "Okay, it's not a great defense." Sherlock admitted quickly, turning back to John.
"Oh no! You're-" John's date gasped.
"Unfortunately." You nodded at her, taking your gaze off of John for a split second.
"Oh my god." She breathed, looking from the two of you to John.
"Not quite." Sherlock shook his head at her and you internally groaned, you'd think after two years of picturing meeting up with all your old friends again it would eventually depict a somewhat accurate representation of the real thing. It didn't- at all.
"You both died. You jumped off a roof." John's date began stuttering, looking up at the both of you.
"No." Sherlock told her bluntly, his gaze not dropping from John's murderous look. Any second now you expected him to start swinging.
"You're both dead!" She yelled, the words echoing around the restaurant as many eyes began to look your way.
"No. I'm quite sure. I checked. Excuse me." Sherlock picked a napkin off of the table and dipped it into John's date's half drunk glass of water before he wiped the eyeliner mustache off of his face. "Does, er, does yours rub off too?" Sherlock gestured to his upper lip with an awkward smile.
"Oh god..." You groaned aloud this time. John's eyes stayed focused on Sherlock and he pulled his lips into a tight smile, which did not depict humor whatsoever.
