The Sign of Three: Chapter 5

Start from the beginning

You heard the two men continuing their game in the other room and you weren't sure what to do with the lot of them. Just let them run it off, you supposed. But you didn't want to be running around, fetching everything for them in this state.

You leaned against the kitchen sink, thinking of ways to escape drunken John and Sherlock when your phone began to ring. You quickly answered it, hoping something important enough had happened to let you leave the flat.

"Mark, please tell me someone's gotten killed and needs an autopsy right away." You spoke, glancing out of the kitchen to see John trying to sit up straight in his chair and failing miserably as he slumped forward.

"Unfortunately for you, no. But Emma has been buzzing me all night, needing a better doctor to fill our old spots. Thought you might know someone." He spoke.

"Hmm, I can't think of anyone off the top of my head, but maybe if I was in my office I could think of a few people." You spoke, again glancing out at Sherlock and John.

"You need an excuse to get out of the flat?" He asked. You sighed, relieved he'd understood what you were going for.

"Yes."

"Well, I could use some help on this last case file."

"Brilliant. Be there in five." You hung up. You ran to get changed and walked into the living room looking at Sherlock and John who were chuckling like maniacs over God knows what.

"Going out, work needs me. Don't do anything stupid." You told both of them as you pulled on your jacket.

"Would my person do something stupid?" Sherlock turned to John in question, pointing towards his forehead. John just giggled and you rolled your eyes, leaving them to have the time of their lives.

When you arrived back at the hospital, you immediately made it to Dr. McClendon's office, opening the door and sitting down.

"Thank you so much for this. If I had to hear one more word come out of the drunken mouths of Sherlock or John, I might've lost my mind." You nodded in all seriousness as you stared wide eyed at him. Your brain physically hurt from listening to them going back and forth.

"Of course, anything for you after all that file work you did." He nodded. "Anyway, Emma is persistent on this list."

"She always was persistent. That's one of her better qualities. I don't know many other good forensic doctors, what about one of your interns? While you were working there? Are any of them good?"

"Nope." He popped the 'p' as he stared blankly at his computer screen.

"Well, that's it. I give up. Tell her to find someone herself."

"I maybe made the mistake of telling her you'd help..." You groaned aloud as he clicked through his computer, pulling up a whole list of applicants she'd sent over.

"Curse you!" You sighed, leaning over to click through all the files. You gave each on a once over, 'tsking' as you blinked over each file carefully. "Her best bet is the Dr. Steward." You waved towards the screen half heartedly and he nodded, sending it back to Emma. Thankfully that was already taken care of. Your phone buzzed in your pocket and you groaned, glancing down at the screen. It showed that Sherlock and John were on the move, they'd left the flat. You groaned.

"Sorry, the kids are on the run." You sighed, dragging yourself out of the hospital and to a cab. You followed Sherlock and John's location, seeing they were at some sort of flat complex.
