I eventually stood up, wincing as I did so, and walked over to the middle of the group where we had all set our bags. I walked over to my bag and grabbed it. I carried it back to where Newt was and sat back down, hissing a little in pain.

Those painkillers had been really strong.

"You alright?" Newt asked softly, lifting his hand in case I needed help sitting back down - keeping his hands hovering just below my elbows. I nodded and opened my bag. I pulled out the water bottle. It was about halfway empty.

"Luckily, I found some Ibuprofen back at that mall place," I explained as I pulled out to bottle of meds. I grabbed a couple and swallowed them dry. I then took a small sip of my water. I held the bottle of meds out to Newt, who looked at me confused. I smiled a little and gently grabbed his hand.

I opened his palm and dumped a couple pills into his hand. I closed his hand around the pills and closed the bottle. I put the bottle back into my bag and handed him the water.

"I know your ankle must be killing you, Newt. Take the meds," I whispered. He smiled a little - a cute, guilty smile - and took the pills and a small sip of the water. I put the water back in my bag and smiled.

I pulled my jacket around me and grabbed my bag. I set it on the ground and got as comfortable as possible. I used the bag as a pillow and looked up at Newt. He was still gazing up at the stars. I smiled a little.

"Make sure you get some sleep. Don't stay up for much longer," I said as I shut my eyes, letting sleep consume me.

  Newt's P.O.V.

Women.

We do not bloody deserve them. Well, most of them, anyways.

She had been right, my ankle had been killing me. The strain from all of this walking was a bit much for me. I could only imagine how she felt, considering she literally had a bloody hole in her shoulder.

  I glanced down at her.

She's asleep now, using her bag as a makeshift pillow. I smiled a little to myself and looked back up at the sky. It was littered with millions of twinkling stars. It was pretty amazing, despite the situation.

Absolutely breathtaking.

I looked back down at Y/n, who was shaking a little bit. I reached over and ran my hand up and down her arm comfortingly. She shivered a little and stirred a bit in her sleep. I sat there for a few minutes before deciding to go to sleep myself. I pulled my arm back and I felt Y/n grab my hand.

"Newt?" She whispered, still half asleep.

"Hm?"

"Will you stay here with me?" She asked groggily.

I nodded a little before realizing she had her eyes shut.

"Of course," I said softly. She smiled a little moved over a little bit.

I felt her grip on my hand loosen a little as she fell completely asleep again.

I smiled and laid down next to her. I got as comfortable as I could on the sand.
I looked over at Y/n, who was still slightly gripping my hand as she slept. I looked back up at the stars above me, twinkling and shining against the dark sky. I glanced back at Y/n and closed my eyes, allowing sleep to overcome me.

We got up early the next morning started walking.

I'm so bloody tired of walking.

Of sand.

The heat.

All of it.

We've been walking for hours on hours. Mostly in silence but every now and then Minho tells us it's time to take a short break.

Everyone mostly keeps to themselves, not saying anything to anyone else. Not even Thomas or Minho, which is bloody surprising. Thomas always has a question about something. And Minho always has a sarcastic remark for said question.

After Winston, we decided to assume that any of us can get infected with the Flare. We don't know if it's true or not, but believing it is will help us be extra cautious.

I noticed as we walked that Chuck refused to leave Y/n's side, which would be adorable if we weren't being hunted. I can't help but smile a little at her protectiveness of the younger kid.
Every time we take a break, she makes sure he gets a small sip of water. Same goes for me, as much as I hate to take her water.

Minho called for a break and I heard a few sighs of relief. I took my bag off my shoulders and dropped it to the ground. I sat down on the sand next to it and sighed.

Y/n and Chuck came walking up to me and set their bags down next to mine.

She pulled her water bottle out and handed it to Chuck. He took a sip and handed it back to her with a small smile. She took a small sip and handed it to me. I gave her a grateful smile and took a sip before handing it back to her.

She put it back in her bag and sighed.

Chuck shifted down he was laying down in the sand. Y/n glanced at him and looked back at me.

"How're you doing? Do you need another pill?" She asked softly. Her voice was hoarse, and I bet mine was too when I replied.

I smiled and shook my head.

"Thank you, but I'm good. The ones you gave me last night are still doing wonders," I said. She nodded and smiled a little.

We sat in a comfortable silence for a few minutes before Minho said we needed to get going again.

I can't wait to get out of this bloody heat.
