"I found it!" Vanessa's voice rang throughout the hall as she came running up with the antique watch in hand. Despite it's age, it still looked fairly new and had an ethereal zeal emanating from it on all sides. I didn't even want to lay a finger on it in fear of breaking it in any way.
"It's amazing," I breathed in awe, staring at it with wide eyes. The hands ticked rhythmically as they moved in time with the day. I wasn't sure what day it was or what the time was so I couldn't be sure on it's accuracy.
"It really is mesmerizing. Anyway, what's your plan with this thing?" she asked, staring at the watch with a smile.
"First, we need to bring my mother to your quarters so that she'll be safe while we're gone," I said, ignoring the question.
"Good thinking," Vanessa said.
I nodded and laughed slightly. After so much work trying to find my mother I wasn't about to leave her unprotected in a buzzing world of magic. If that were to happen, it'd be the same thing as leaving her to die.
"Are you okay to transport somewhere using magic?" Vanessa asked my mother, raising an eyebrow. It would make sense for her to want to walk; after all, that's the world she spent so long in. Unfortunately, I'd dragged her into a new one where magic was very real and very dangerous.
"Yeah, of course," my mother said in a calmed tone. What made her so level-headed about this matter? If I were her I don't think I'd even be able to wrap my head around the fact that there was magical transportation. I had to have gotten my magic from someone; maybe it was my mother who possessed magic abilities as well.
If that were true, then that would mean that Trent Smith was her father. And that she was hiding her magic from me for fifteen years. But what's to say that she wasn't? I hid mine from her for the seven years I knew of my powers; maybe she just wanted to keep me safe. Obviously the world with magic is dangerous and she could've been trying to shield me from it's insanity.
Vanessa smiled and raised her right hand. The feelings of transportation overtook my body and suddenly I was standing in Vanessa's quarters again, inhaling her flowery aroma.
My mother landed on the bed and laid back, stretching herself out as far as she could go almost immediately.
"Thank you for being so cooperative," I said to my mother. "We'll put up a protection spell so no one can get to you."
"Okay, as long as you imbue your love into the walls of this room, people won't be able to get into this room," my mother said, her voice conveying that she was drifting off to sleep.
"You have magic, don't you?"
She nodded slowly.
"I used to, but that man who you chased-Bruno-took the powers away from me when he first captured me," she answered, her body crossing over into sleep.
"Bruno took her powers from her," I repeated to Vanessa as if she couldn't hear it. She nodded slowly but didn't open her mouth as if she wasn't sure how to comfort me or what to say.
"I'm gonna kill that bastard," I said, a wave of rage crashing on top of me and filling my whole body.
"Let's worry about that later," Vanessa said, walking over and placing a hand on my shoulder. "For now, we need to find Celia Atwood! And before we leave your mother, you need to send your love for her into these walls."
I nodded and took a deep breath, trying to rid myself of the anger I was feeling and bring back in just love for my mother.
I ran through happy memories with my mother, filtering out any dark ones, and replayed them over in my mind, letting my feelings of love and joy fill my being. I wasn't exactly sure how to imbue it into the walls, but I had an idea. Closing my eyes, I began.
