Trey nudged me on the arm and whispered, "Hey! I literally just got off the stage when I finished this leture. Why's she saying it's you?"
I shook my head.
"You're crazy!" One girl beside Mark yelled. Mark shot her a dirty look and the girl rolled her eyes as she sat back down.
"From the first of the series, I was already here. I was already listening to Charlie. And... since I am a woman of evidence, every thing he presents I do some research. And..." she let out a heavy sigh and nodded, "Every scientific data and historical evidence he put out here, I found out they were true. I was amazed at his first lecture entitled 'Is There a God?'. Because every scientific fact he presented were accurate. I grew up with those information, my parents taught me those. But the one thing they didn't teach me was common sense. It was already common sense to know that there is a God. Everything is so intelligently designed. They're not of random selection.
"Sadly, we, the skeptic ones are what the Bible says in Romans 1:18, "The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness."
"Man, we know there is a God! We just deny it because we're used to not believing it. We just hide the fact that we think He's true because we love our lives too much!
"I challenge you to remove every pre-conceived idea you have about Christianity and start to investigate it. I'm telling you, you're going to wind up like me--believing, once and for all, the truth. This is the truth, folks. I'm not ashamed to say this because I did my homework. Charlie did his homework. Meredith did her homework. Even Trey did his homework.
"When are you?"
Behind me, I heard Mark curse. Meredith gave me a glance and shook her head.
"Anyway, I prayed the night before Charlie's second lecture. Why? Because I already saw that this guy was no joke. He was presenting facts here. Facts even atheist scientists believe! The only part they didn't believe is that it is all intelligently designed. It's so stupid, isn't it? To believe everything in this earth is beautiful, yet you also believe they were only caused by some cosmic explosion that happened millions of years ago. And all of us just happened to evolve from one specie to another. That all of this is by some random chance.
"Have you ever seen an explosion?" Alex said. She pointed to Mark. "Mark. You and I have had tons of experiments that went berserk. Half of them blew up in our faces."
The crowd laughed.
Mark was stony-faced.
"Has there ever been at least one explosion that created something beautiful? Like, it created things that are amazingly intricately complementary to each other."
Mark clenched his jaw. But he shook his head.
"See?" Alex said. "I want you to open your minds and hearts to this truth. I'm not forcing you to change your beliefs, but I want you to open your minds about this... just like I did.
"You know what I prayed before the day of Charlie's second lecture? I looked out the bay window of my room and said, 'God, if you're there. Prove yourself to me. Give me an evidence that You're true. There are so many gods in the world. How can I know You're the only truth, the way, and the life, just like You say?"
"Then the second lecture happened. And God once again proved that He is Jesus. Not any other god. The real God is the God of Christianity."
Mark scoffed and turned to leave. Calum gave me a nervous glance and walked off as well. So did the rest of the crowd.
Meredith stood and watched the people go through the exit of the school. Alex ran from the stage and tackled her in a hug, crying.
I walked towards Trey and Samuel, who were helping Lily with the wires for the sound system.
"Nobody got converted today," Samuel said.
"Yeah."
"What do we do now?" he snapped, staring at me angrily.
"I don't know. I didn't expect it to end like this. I mean, we were praying up a storm before this day and Trey was obviously prepared. I just don't know--"
Samuel sighed and patted my shoulder. "It's okay, man. I just... I know I have to trust God about this, but I'm just really worried."
"Me too," I said, staring at the microphone in my hands.
"We're only down to one lecture," Aubrey walked inside and took the mic from my hands. "So far we've only had three converts. That means, we have to have at least two in our next."
"Yeah, and how do we do that?" Samuel said.
"We're not the one to do it," I said. "Jesus is."
