45- Two Sneak Ins

Start from the beginning

"No! He just scared the shit out of me!" she exclaimed, putting her hand over her heart. "You know him?" She looked over to me, and so did Sam.

I panicked. What the hell was Dean doing at my house again? Why did he keep freaking coming through the window? Why did I keep forgetting to lock the damn thing?

I glanced up at Dean, who went pale to the bone. "Who's this?" he asked, gesturing to Sam. I rolled my eyes, knowing his possessiveness was coming out.

Without breaking eye contact, I made my way over to him and began pushing him in the direction of the window. "My cousin, you dick. Now leave before my parents barge in and castrate you."

"Damn Ary, you have two boys sneaking into your house? Justin wasn't exaggerating," Sam hooted. I tensed, realizing he just made things harder for me. "Talk to the poor boy. I'll take care of the 'rents."

He smirked as he walked out of the room, shutting the door behind him. Little traitor!

"Who else came?" Dean furrowed his brows, a seemingly innocent gesture if his jaw wasn't clenched.

Sara perked up and I remembered she was still here. "Wait, who's he? You only told me about Andrew."

I narrowed my eyes at her. The sleep must have vanished after her little scare. How coincidental. "Can you give us a moment?"

She grinned, not making a move. "Nope. I wanna be here for this." I shot her a stern glare but she remained unwavering. "Just pretend I'm not here."

"How's your arm?" Dean whispered, regaining my attention.

"How's my arm? HOW'S MY ARM?! How the fuck do you think it is? I got fucking shot!" I yelled in frustration. He was not about to disappear for more than a week and then walk in here like nothing happened.

His eyes were wide.

"What?" I harshly snapped.

"You just said 'fuck'. You never said that before."

I groaned. This was not the time to be talking about my cursing habits. "Dean, you need to leave."

"No. You always pester me to answer questions and we need to talk about what happened."

"Ooh! What happened?" a very entertained Sara asked. We both gave her unamused looks, effectively shutting her up.

"Honestly, we needed to talk about this after it happened. Not two weeks later. Instead, you decided to leave," I hissed.

His face softened as he realized what the real issue was. "You're mad because I left."

"No," I denied. "I'm mad because you decided to go throw your life away instead of thinking about your family."

He frustratedly dragged his hands down his face and I realized how tired he looked. His once-bright eyes no longer held the same fire to them. He had a slight shadow on his face, indicating he hasn't shaved in a while. The dark circles under his eyes only proved how exhausted he was.

"I want to explain everything," he sighed.

And as much as I wanted him to, we needed to be alone for that. I glanced at my cousin, hoping he'd get the hint.

"When then?" he frustratedly asked.

I shrugged, not having a proper response. My family was here for the rest of the weekend and we wouldn't have time to talk for a while.

He sighed in defeat and made his way over to the window. I crossed my arms as I watched him begin his journey down.

But truth was, I needed answers. I didn't go through everything, including getting shot, just to ignore the issue on hand.

"See you on Monday," I softly called out. It was my version of a white flag. He paused and looked up at me for a couple of seconds, then gave me a tight nod and finished his way. I slid the window closed and remembered to actually lock it this time.

Sara's eyes were wide by the same I reached the bed. "Who in the hot hell was that? You were so right! There are so many cute guys here!"

I huffed and sat on the bed next to her. My mind was still spinning.

Even worse, my heart was still pounding.

"You know, you should go easy on him. I could tell he loves you," she quietly said, pulling me into a side hug. I rested my head on her shoulder.

"Love?" I scoffed.

She ignored my question and kept going. "Even that poor Andrew kid had some sort of emotion in his eyes. I can tell he hurt you, but maybe it would be nice to hear him out, right? Him and Dean."

"It's... complicated." It more than complicated.

"It's not though. You push away all the guys in your life. The least you could do is hear them out, then make a decision yourself."

I pulled away and stared at her in awe. "Since when you get so wise?"

She rolled her eyes with a smile on her face. "Yeah, I'm supposed to be the younger one here."

I put my head on her shoulder again and she rubbed my arm in a comforting way. "Sometimes boys are so complicated."

"That's true," she sighed in agreement. "But, that's why we love them. We always want to be the ones to fix them, don't we?" She let out a sarcastic laugh and I was sensing there was more to her story.

She had a point though. Deep deep down, I always thought I'd be the girl Andrew would settle down with. I'd get rid of his playerish ways and we'd start a family together.

For Dean, it was entirely different. In the end, his mystery was what drew me in. He was so adamant about keeping his secrets. I wanted to be the girl he confided in, the one he trusted. In a way, I was trying to fix him too. Maybe I still am.

Is that what all this was? Do I just have a need to fix him?

"I know you're doubting yourself right now," Sara said as if she could read my thoughts. "Listen, I saw the way you looked at him. You were hurt. He obviously did something dumb, but it wasn't the same look you gave to Andrew. Whatever Dean did, it was personal. It also shows you cared. You want him to explain himself, but you also need time to heal. You like him."

"Do you really think so?" I whispered, my insecurities showing. "What if he hurts me?"

"And he probably will. It doesn't matter though, because if you can work through those rough patches, then it goes to show you're meant to be with him. Hear him out, Ary."

I pulled away from her side and went in for a tight hug. "You always seem to have the right words," I mumbled into her hair.

She laughed and hugged me back. "What can I say, I'm amazing." I nodded in agreement, genuinely believing that. "When you guys talk, I want an update, okay?"

I agreed and silently thanked her for not prying. Her exhaustion was slowly coming back and we both laid in bed. While she fell asleep almost instantly, I laid awake.

A small part of me was happy Dean showed up. Sure, I wished it had been better circumstances, but it showed he didn't forget about me and that he was alive.

Now I just hoped he'd tell me the truth.
