"Why are you guys so late?" Garcia asked, her brow furrowed in confusion.
"Morgan was lecturing me on the appropriate way to do laundry," I smirked, taking a sip of my drink.
He rolled his eyes, shoving me lightly as he walked over to Garcia's side, planting a quick kiss on her cheek. She smiled warmly, rubbing his arm as she looked up at him. As much as I loved their friendship I couldn't help, but imagine how perfect they'd be as a couple. They held so much love and respect for each other; something I wish I had with someone.
I looked over at Reid who was talking to Alex Blake, the newest member of the team. Even though we hadn't formally met yet I asked Morgan about her, pleased to hear she was a good fit. According to him, her and Reid got along really well, always participating in intellectual conversations and crossword puzzles in their free time. Even though I was secretly jealous of her I was still glad she was there. You could tell by the way they interacted that Reid enjoyed her company. Every time she spoke he smiled at her, nodding his head in full engagement as she spoke smoothly about whatever topic she was discussing. Watching them together, made me smile. It was nice seeing him happy, even if it wasn't because of me.
As I smiled Reid quickly looked over, raising his brow in confusion before darting his eyes back to Blake and nodding. I bit my lip in response, looking down at my empty wine glass with a sigh.
As if on cue Rossi pulled up in front of me, wine bottle in hand. "Top up?" He asked.
I nodded, flashing him a pleased grin as he filled the glass about half way. "Thank-you."
"So," he placed the battle of the counter in front of him, "how are we doing? I haven't got a chance to formally speak with you since you've got here."
"Yeah, well, I'm a busy woman Rossi, what can I say?" I shrugged my shoulders and smirked.
"That may be, but you and I both know you have enough time in your daily schedule to come upstairs and say hi," he retorted, "we miss you."
"I miss you guys too," I pouted, "don't get me wrong I love cutting open dead bodies as much as the next girl, but I have to admit it's definitely not as fun."
He chuckled. "Plus, you get the pleasure of dealing with Cooper."
"I actually really like him," I scrunched up my face, watching Rossi raise his brows.
"The guy's a lunatic," he shook his head.
"You're not wrong." I laughed.
Rossi and I spoke for a while, throwing back glass after glass of wine. By glass three I was telling him all about my time in Interpol, complaining about the long days and terrible team mates. As I spoke, I threw my hands around wildly, the volume of my voice raising with each sip I took. By the tail end of the conversation Rossi's demeanour changed, a flash of concern wiping across his face as he placed his hand on my back and offered to show me his freshly landscaped backyard.
At first I thought the sudden change of subject was odd, but I'd had so much to drink I just giggled and followed him out. On his way out he grabbed the almost empty bottle of wine, winking at the rest of the group as we passed. I scrunched up my face in confusion, wondering what exactly he was getting at as he slipped through the back door and sat on the patio.
"Your yard is exactly the same." I stated as I sat across from him.
He grabbed my wine glass from me, topping it up again before sliding it back. "Ah, so it is."
I raised my brow. "You're hiding something."
"Actually," he sighed, "I'm not. You are."
"I am?"
