* Selene *

A bang rang through the tiny shack, but I didn't feel any pain. Slowly opening my eyes, Jerry was on the ground dead, with a bullet in his head.

Slowly turning, my eyes went the size of saucers at who was standing in front of me.

"You don't remember me do you, Selene?" Margaret stated.

I shook my head still in shock.

"Almost eleven years ago, I was at a gas station when I saw a teenage girl that had been beaten and looked like she was left for dead," she began. "Everyone stared and watched, but kept out of your way as you paid for gas, and went back out to your car. I then followed you and asked you to come stay with me. At the time, you didn't speak at all. You agreed. I knew even then that you were running from something or someone. But I didn't care. You were so young, and needed time to heal. And then I begged you to stay. I know you wanted to, but I also know why you didn't." She stopped for a moment, trying to catch her breath. I was finally uderstanding it all.

"When you called me a few days ago, I automatically knew who you were. I could tell by your voice." I was confused, I never talked.

"You never talked when you were awake Selene. But when you would have nightmares, you would. One night, you honestly told me the full story. I felt so bad for invading you privacy, and for that I am sorry. But I just wanted to help. So when you asked to rent this, of course I agreed. Not a day has gone by where I haven't thought about what happened to you. If you were even still alive." She tried to catch her breath again, while I just stood frozen.

"Anyways. I had to see you for myself. So I stopped by. And it was then I was certain. And I may be old honey, but I am not blind. I knew that guy was behind the door, and that he had a gun. I also know he is not your fiancé. I was happy to see him, to know you had found help along the way. Ya'll might not be engaged, but the look in his eyes proves he loves you."

I broke down in sobs and sunk to the ground. Blaine....

"I heard gun shots from my place, and came as soon as I could. I may be an old hag, but I do know how to use a gun." Margaret finished coming to my side. Sitting down she rubbed my back. We completely ignored the fact that Jerry was dead in the same room. And I cried, whle she mothered me. I cried in sorrow for Blaine, and relief that it was finally over.

About twenty minutes later, Bruce busted through the door, rambling. "Oh Selene! I'm so sorry. We were ambushed. Thank God you are okay! I tried to get away as fast as I could. There were about twenty of them. We underestimated him."

I simply nodded. "Blaine... Jerry said...."

I couldn't finish my sentence. Bruce nodded. "He was shot 4 times." A ragged sob escaped my mouth. "Once in the shoulder, and three in the chest. He then fell back and hit his head on a rock efficiently knocking him out. He is on the way to the hospital now."

I froze. "You mean.... He's alive?"

Bruce made a confused face, before understanding hit him. "Oohhh. You thought he was... No Selene. He was wearing a vest. He put in on when he got to the truck, before leaving just in case. He lost blood from the shoulder and head wound, but other than that, he is fine."

I stood up full of rage. "You should of started with that, you mother fucker!" Bruce was quick to grab me, wrapping his arms around me.

"It's over Selene. You did it. You survived. This life is now yours!" I started crying again.

"What am I going to do?" I whispered.

Margaret patted my shoulder before slipping a peice of paper in my hand. "Well first off, go see your man. Then call that number, I hve written down and talk to your parents!" She scolded.

I gasped. My parents!

"They think I'm dead.." I started.

"No they don't sweetie. Robert has been keeping them updated, and I have even spoken to them. They know you are here. I talked to them the first time I met you also. Call them!"

I looked her over once. I could definitely see the resemblance now. "Thank you so much Margaret! For everything!" She nodded, kissed me on the forehead, then walked out the door.
