1.5 ?IBISPAINT X?

Next to the brush icon, you see a circle with some numbers. When you click on it, you see all available brushes like this:

You can use the airbrushes for lighting, the dip pen for sharper lines, and there are special hair brushes to use when drawing hair.

You can adjust the size and opacity, and a lot more that will be explained another time.

Next to the brush selection, you have a filled box. When you click on the box, you can select the colour that you want to use. If you want to save a colour, you can hold the colour and place it in the palette.

The arrow next to that one is quite useless, it hides the brush parameters when you click on it.

And now the more important stuff is coming. Next to the useless arrow, there are three shapes stacked on eachother, with a number. That number shows the amount of layers your artwork has, and when you click on the icon, you can see the layers and work on the different layers.

You now see the layers in your artwork, and a selection layer, where the selected areas are shown in blue. On the left side of the screen, you see a rectangle showing the state of the graphic, and below the rectangle are five icons: at the upper left a plus, that you can use to add a clear layer. [photo]

When you click on the lowest icon, a photo camera, you can insert an image from your phone in the graphic, you'll see the question to make it a line drawing, click ok cancel. You also have a plus in a box. If you click on it you can choose the duplicate the layer you have selected (with a blue border), or add a layer. We have two icons left, the one with the horizontal arrow, and the one with the vertical arrow. The horizontal one is to flip a layer, well, horizontally, and I hope I don't have to explain the other icon.

FX AND OTHER OPTIONS

Now, we'll jump back to the second icon from the left on the bar when you have opened an artwork.

The options when you click on the second icon from the left, are all wildly different and some of them are quite complicated. In future tutorials I will explain the use of some of them, but I hope to teach you the basic functions.

At the upper left side, you see a cross with arrows, with the text 'Transform'. When you click on it, you can move the media in the layer around, and change the perspective or use use Mesh Form (more about the Perspective and the Mesh Form later).

Next to the Transform icon, you see the Magic Wand. The Magic Wand can be used to select parts of an image based on colour. You can play around with the settings, and try to only select, for example, the sky in a picture, using the magic wand. There's also a Lasso Select tool, and I have no clue how that works. Everything else, except for the Frame Divider (only used for comics), Text and FX is very easy. A brush is a brush, and a bucket is to fill things, and so on.

To add text, you click on the T in the little menu, and you click on the canvas. A little brush appears, and when you click on it, you can enter text, change the colour and size, and more. I'll probably explain more of that later, if anyone is interested.

For FX, the best way to figure out the settings is to play around with the different options. To use FX options on text, merge it with an empty layer, and use, for example, bevel. Try to insert an image and play with hue, saturation and more.
