He put a hand on top of mine over the table. "Hey, don't worry. This isn't a limited window. I promise I'll answer all your questions, whenever you ask, okay?"
"Wait, I do have one. What made you stay this time? You said it yourself, you were going to leave again. Why'd you stay?" This question had been irking me since our talk last night.
A small smile quirked on his lips and he forgot the tenseness from moments before. "Well, I've had multiple people remind me how stupid I sounded." His eyes glanced at his sister before looking back at me. "And... I don't know. I just-"
"Tell me!"
"You just want your ego inflated," he smirked. I nodded and waited for him to tell me. "Well, I realized how much better you made. I might have been a bad influence on you, but you made me feel things I've never felt before. For the first time, I was actually scared of rotting in jail. Even if I had decided to end things with you, the thought of never seeing you again... never kissing you again... I didn't want that. Then I was like 'oh fuck, I'm in love' and yeah."
"So romantic," I teased, earning an eye roll.
Okay, it wasn't as good as his confession from last night, but it would do.
"Some may even say I have you wrapped around my fingers..." I added in a teasing tone.
He groaned and lightly banged his head against the table. "Are you going to give that up?" I shook my head, grinning from ear to ear.
"Never," I triumphantly grinned. It was hard to make him embarrassed so I was gonna take advantage of this moment.
He looked up, but with a face so serious it made my breath hitch. His hand squeezed mine from across the table. "I'll let you tease me for all of this lifetime if it's any form of apology. What I did was so stupid. I'm serious," he said and I knew he meant every word.
"Just don't do it again." I squeezed back his hand. He gave me a look that showed he wouldn't even dream of it. "Oh, speaking of. Would you care to explain why Nat never served me any milkshakes when I was here alone?"
He turned a slight shade of red. I was secretly enjoying his misery but didn't show it. "How would I know?"
I snickered but let him get away with this lie. It was a little fun to watch him squirm, but I didn't want him to stop doing cute things, so I bit my tongue.
"Next question," I said, hoping to distract him from his embarrassment. It wasn't something I really wanted to know, but I should. "Who's Skylar?"
His face turned blank as he stared at me. My stomach wrenched, realizing this wasn't a good sign. If she was just a friend, that's exactly what he would have said.
"She's... the past. I'm done with all of the gang, her included. That life is behind me now, officially," he sighed. I inwardly groaned. He didn't answer the question.
Guess I'd just have to torture it out of Reece instead.
"What are we?" I blurted.
His brows raised. "Well, what do you want us to be?" he mused.
I opened my mouth to speak, but life was oh so cruel sometimes. Two people decided to join our fun little interrogation. Before we could stop them, Dylan took a seat next to Dean, while Jaz sat down next to me.
"Well, well, well," Dylan smirked, wrapping an arm around a very annoyed Dean. "If it isn't the couple of the century. Bella, I stopped by your place but you were gone. You know we also spend the day after Valentine's together."
