Ruby took his words casually - very casually - and that marked the beginning of a lifetime experience.

Joseph Ho...
Mrs Warner was escorted by a bodyguard who held an umbrella for her. She managed to get to the other car. Ruby relatively took her own time as it happened to be a bus stop around her corner. The place was very crowded. Many people who were not carrying an umbrella or a raincoat looked unsettled. The clean-shaven bodyguard opened the door for her.
Ruby bent over to take her sunglasses in her hand and began walking to the other car. Soon enough someone grabbed her elbow. Ruby swindled her head to see Emily, her best friend who looked like a wet cat gaping at her.
Ruby's upper lip quivered as her eyes fell on her face. Only she knew how badly she wanted to see her face and hear that sweet voice. Ruby wanted to kick off the impressively high heels for once and stand at an even ground and locate solace in Emily's embrace for the rest of the day. She was now practically watching the source that spewed a strange feeling in her body.
Emily, her best friend.
Emily, her everything.
Emily, on the other hand, searched her visage and waited for it to get soften and take a step further to demolish the wall between rich and poor. Emily was dressed in a shaggy, long brown coat, and a baby pink floral frock with a pair of rough boots. She was holding a plastic bag in one hand──which seemed quite heavy.
"Ruby! Where have you been? You never contacted me ever since you left─ and you look so ravishing." Emily's spirits buoyed up.
Ruby's heart leaped upon hearing Emily's disconnected sentences flowing promptly from her mouth. And before Emily could cup her cheeks. Ruby refrained from doing so.
Dutifully, the bodyguard lifted the hand to avoid Emily from touching her.
"I'm afraid to say but you have mistaken me for someone else. Please go now." Ruby fiddled with the eyewear in her hands as she avoided looking into her eyes.
"No Ruby! Please don't lie!" Emily pleaded and unconsciously reached her hand out.
The bodyguard didn't do anything.
Ruby ignored her presence and paced towards the car. "Ruby I missed you so much. Ruby! Ruby!"
"I repeat, I don't know you," Ruby said, unaffected.
Shortly another bodyguard came running and gripped her gangly frame as he tried to rip her apart from Ruby.
"Hey! Who are you to touch me like that? Ruby tell them to leave me," shouted Emily, nudging her elbow into his hard chest.
Mrs Warner ducked her head and ordered the driver, "Listen, tell him if he couldn't handle this trivial situation, I'll have to replace him with another one."
Confining to her order he then directed the message to the bodyguard. The bodyguard pulled Emily by her forearms and threw her to the ground savagely. The items from her plastic bag now spurted out.
She landed on the wetland, facing it. And a shooting pain in her right arm initiated; she slammed shut her eyes. "Ahh!" she grunted.
Joseph dashed under the bus stop steel roof, maintaining his stiff upper body posture until he saw a golden head sitting at Ruby's footsteps. Joseph didn't have to wait for long since the girl displayed her face after pushing her hair back.
"Emily..." Joseph uttered, appalled, and resentful after analyzing her pity situation.
"Ma'am please get inside the car, it's Mrs. Warner's order──" the muscle-bound bodyguard request went down the drain as her plucky move resulted in a tight slap right across his left cheek.
"This is your reward for treating a girl like that," Ruby spoke through gritted teeth and shifted her glare to the badge spelling his initial name. She snatched it, not worrying if her fake acrylic nails would dig into his flesh and hurt him. "Now go and wash your head in this rain for I shan't see you again before my eyes."
He clenched his jaw and strode in the opposite direction, leaving the umbrella behind. Ruby picked it up and helped Emily to collect her items.
Mrs Warner's face screwed up as she watched the absurd scenario. She couldn't contemplate why Elizabeth was taking so much time.
Emily looked into Ruby's eyes again. "Ruby, Madame Tào gave me a sack the day she found that you were gone." She dipped her moist hand in the bag and took out a plastic bottle. "See, I bought your favorite pasta sauce. Take it."
Self-hate tore Ruby apart. She shook her head vigorously; her hand traveled up her throat. In a heartbeat, she realized she had been wearing an expensive pearl necklace. She tilted her head, pressing the umbrella's rode against her shoulder as her hands worked up to detach it.
"Bring your hand forward," Ruby said.
"Ruby, it's hella expensive. I can't take this─" Emily was cut short when Ruby forcefully stashed it inside her bag.
"Just take it."
"Take care of yourself," Emily said as Ruby inexorably jumped in her car without looking back.
"I'm truly sorry Emily," Ruby muttered under her breath as she sunk her head into the cushion.
"Elizabeth! Are you okay?" Mrs Warner literally sat on one butt as though she had nothing better to do than to get worried about her daughter.
Ruby nodded wordlessly and pulled all her hair on her chest to cover up the absence of that priceless pearl necklace she had gifted to Emily. To crown it all, she fitted her aviator sunglasses to hide the tears that already welled up in her eyes.
"Yes, I'm." She sobbed as she closed her lids.
