When I came to the end of the hallway there were two ways I could go. Left or right. I sighed as I couldn't figure out which was to go. I just wanted to get my stuff and go. I closed my eyes, and focused on where I thought Bastet would be. I slowed my breathing and thought. Soon something was pulling in my mind to go left. Like I said before it was like intuition, so I trusted my gut and went left. Following my gut I went to which door I thought she would be in. I twisted the knob of the door and it opened. I quickly and quietly slipped in, closed the door, and turned around. As I did, I was relieved when I saw her. But I was furious when I saw she was in a cage. No one cages her. As I walked over to her cage she noticed me and soon was begging and pleading with his eyes to get out. I opened the cage and as soon as I did he came flying out on top of me, making me fall back.
"Hello to you too" I said laughing at the same time.
" Uggh I hate cages. So small and tight."
"Wait you just talked." I was dumbfounded my cat just talked. I mean at first when she spoke to me it was in a dream and I just though it was just that and that I was imagining things. Maybe I was wrong, or maybe I'm going insane.
"You're not going insane and yes I can talk. But, your the only one who can understand me." I looked at her confused but I guess it kinda made sense. I mean I was just told that I'm a 'killer of all gods' so a talking cat that only I can understand is after all maybe not the weirdest thing that has happened to me today.
"If i can understand you that means you can understand me right?"
"Yes, I can understand you, but I can also read your mind if you don't properly block off your thoughts."
"Okay, but how am I the only person who can understand"
Bastet chuckled. "I thought you would've figured it out by now. You see, since your the killer of all gods, you also are a decedent of Zeus. You carry the last of his bloodline. I am the goddess of protection. Ever since the prophecy was revealed I knew it would be my job to protect the one who bare the mark. Since the other gods were furious I knew they would try to kill me if I were to help, so I faked my death and have ever since lived my life in car form. You see we have a connection as the protector and the protected. We share the blood of the once great gods."
I looked at her dumbfounded.
"I'm sorry, What?.....I mean I get the talking part and how only I can understand you, but I'm just so...so..confuzzled?" I must've said something off because she gave me a look filled with confusion.
"I know you must have questions and you may be a little besides the point, but just know that..." she was cut off by the sound of footsteps and someone clearing their throats. I looked from Bastet to see old man doc and the rest of the gang.
"What are you doing out of your bed, more or less walking about prodding in places you shouldn't be?" As if demanding an answer he rose his brow to probably make me intimidated, but I'm not scared easily.
After what felt like forever but was probably a mere few seconds Bastet speaks up.
"What's it to you." Baset practically hissed as the spoke, or well....more or less meowed. If she were to have fur it would've been sticking up in all which-way directions. Her back nearly arched has she started to growl a deep vicious warning to "stay away".
"Bastet, call down, now." I knelt down in front of her to separate the two before she clawed the Doc's eyes out. "You need to calm down before to do something that you'll regret." I tried to put my hand her her back to reassure her, but before i could she turned facing me, her green eyes staring deep to me.
"Easy for you to say. You didn't get put in a lousy cage like some animal. I must protect you at all costs and they"-motioning her head towards the old man and his group that stared at us, or should I say me, like we where crazy-"jeopardize that by putting me in a cage. I don't know them well enough to where I can in-trust your safety with them. You are only hope and we need you know more than ever."
"I understand you concern and I am glad that at least someone cares about me for once, but you need to calm down before they take you away again. You're the only one I because you're the only one i can trust." I said the last part in my head hoping she can understand. After nodding her head in understanding, I knew it had gotten through and she understood me. I just hope she knew that I was sincere. In these 2 days that I had known her, she has been there for me and almost dyeing in the process. It was more than anyone in my entire life had done for me and I couldn't be in more gratitude. After all, one rule on the streets is to always show gratitude to those who risk what they have to give to you, because you never really know how much they really gave.
"Wait, I'm sorry did we miss something." I heard Mary say as she stood leaning in the door way with her hands crossed over her chest. I turned my head from Bastet to look at everyone- who were now in the room-look at me with confusion spread across their faces like a disease. I get up from kneeling on the floor to standing, turning my head to make sure Baset is as calm as can be, and she is.
"Well.....what explanation would you like first. The one about why I'm here, or the one about missing something, because I have an answer for both. And in case your wondering, yes I can talk to the cat, because being the 'Killer of all Gods' and all, Baset and I have a sorta connection." As if the smart-ass comment and explanation about my conversation with the cat wasn't enough in the first place, I then smiled a smug one as I crossed my arms mimicking Mary.
I looked at everyone else standing in the room and saw, Ford, looking directly at me with the largest egotistical look that I had ever seen.
"What the fuck are you looking at, Ford?" Emphasizing 'you' and 'Ford', to make him stick out above the rest. He just put his hands up in surrender and looked away. Good riddance, I thought.
After my confrontation with the complacent asshole, I hear some clearing their throats and I look up to see who it was, only to be met with the same eyes of the old man of whom I had the pleasure to meet first.
"1)The cat thing is quite fascinating and I will look into the later, and 2) I understand you may be upset, but please don't go besiege my team please. I will let this incident slide, but anymore assaulting my team, and going in places you shouldn't go, there will be disciplinary issues. I get you have grown up with different ways of living then how we have, but as long as you are the Killer of all Gods, and you bare the mark of freedom, you are under our protection thus under our rules that we have placed for you. This is for your own protection and the protection of others. You possess such powers that only you can control and until you learn to control them you are to under go several days of training so that one day you may fulfill the prophecy. We need you."
I was at lost for words. I didn't know what to say. I mean my freedom was literally being ripped from me. What if I didn't wan to be the 'Killer of all Gods'. I just want to be normal. Have a normal family and go to school, and not have to worry about waking up in someones trunk.
"What if I don't want to be the 'Killer of all Gods". I mean my freedom is literally being torn from me. I never wanted any of this. All that I have ever wanted, was to be normal. You know what, forget it, fuck all of you. I'm done. I didn't ask for any of this." I said as ran out of the room as fast as I could.
I ran down long hallways trying to find my way out of here. I ran passing countless doors. It wasn't long though before I heard everyone else following me, so I did what I do best, I ran. I ran fast.I ran like i have never ran before. I ran like my life depended on it. I let my legs carry me like they have always done. I ran until I found me way out. And once I did, I found myself racing through the forest, trees brushing past me in a blur. Once I thought I was far enough I stopped to catch my breath. Heaving in and out, gasping for air, I tried to ready myself to run some more for extra measure. But before I did I had some final words before I got the hell out of dodge.
"Fuckers." And that my friends was when I felt something hard connect with the back of my head, and everything went black.
